Does anyone have any idea on what kind of spider it is?

I think its a 'holy cross' garden spider

They have a vague white cross on their backs.
Im in the UK and we have those here and they can give a small rash when bitten by one..... but just to be on the safe side try not to make friends with it....

One of the orb-spinners. Completely harmless. Eat lots of flies and other pesty flying insects.
