I have heard it is better to turn off all fans since no one is home to save electricity, but now I'm hearing it is better to leave them on to circulate air so my AC won't cut on as much (I put it between 78-80 when I leave in the morning) Please help as I do not want to be spending more money on my electric bill than I have to! lol

Turn them off to save electricity. Mine costs me almost $2 to run 24/7 each. So if you turn one off for 10 hours per day, 5 days per week, you will save about 54 cents per month. Depending on your electric rate. It would not affect the AC use to any great extent either way. They just move air, they don't cool it.

If you are going to be gone all day, it makes sense to drop it down a few degrees. A) while the house is cooler, less heat is being lost. and B) perhaps the sun will warm things up for when you get home later in the day, and so it won't take the fuel it would have to maintain the warmth during the cool hours of the morning. This is most obvious in central florida, where you might well be able to leave the heat off most days, as you don't need much at night while you sleep, and only get up in the morning to leave, and in the afternoon it is usually reasonably nice.

While the chance of a professionally installed fan catching fire is very low, it is not zero. Additionally, the amount of electricity a fan uses is negligible but not zero. The thermostat answer is valid only in the room with the thermostat. The best answer is to turn them off because there is no reason to leave them on! Besides, the more they run, the more dust they collect!

spring, summer, winter and fall my fans run, but in different directions.

fans run at a very little cost, about the cost of a 60watt bulb the cost of heat and air is much higher, but if the fans are older and make any noise you may not what to leave them on or replace them.

I leave the fan in the room were my controls are as this is the main room in the house and at 82 when I'm not home.

Since fans only circulate air and not cool it, there is no reason to leave them on when you are not home.

If it were me, I'd turn them off because of the danger that something might go wrong and they catch fire.

The same with small appliances such as a toaster and etc.....they should always be unplugged when you are not using them.

One thing we all need to face. Air conditioners cost money to run, there is no getting around it. We all need to accept this fact. The cost only last three to four months.

I turn mine off for safety. You never know when there is a short in the wires. If you have pets. They can bite the cords.

HEAT RISES! IF YOU LEAVE THEM OFF THE A/C WILL RUN LESS. THE FANS WILL MIX HOT CEILING AIR & COOL T-STAT LEVEL AIR SO T-STAT KICKS ON.

Fire risk must be the deciding factor.
