Sure! If you are using any of the newer windows operating systems like XP... you can set up seperate accounts for these people with limited access.

First, set up your own as administrator... Go into the Control Panel (Start > Settings > Control Panel is one way to get there)... click into User Accounts icon. Here you can create logins for the rest of your family, chage their passwords, change their account types to limited. This should prevent them from changing and installing.

Also, you could on their accounts, remove/hide the Anti-virus software icon and make it so they cannot disable it. I highly recommend paying for a software suite like McAfee as it is a reliable vendor with many good options.

Also, the Spybot program comes with a teatimer which basically locks important system files so that they cannot be changed.

Fast user switching needs to be enabled as a service, but this is usually stock out of the box with the average windows installation so you shouldn't have to worry about this.

You might also want to make you own administrator account, or make sure that the current one, cannot share files with those other accounts.

Also, you could hide certain files from your family and/or put a password lock on certain file folders (formated NTFS gives more granular features for security... you can always convert)

Lastly, if you had a program like PGP (pretty good privacy) you could set up certain portions of your harddrive as encrypted and they would need your really really good password and your certificate/key as well.

good luck!

Protect your account as a administrator with password and create a different user account to other persons.

Also, you could hide certain files from your family ,keep them access denied and/or put a password lock on certain file folders (formated NTFS gives more granular features for security... you can always convert)

Go into the "User Accounts" in the control panel and give your Admin account a password. Then create a "Limited" account for your Cousin or Brother. Then they won't be able to change any settings.
