i'm a HUGE elvis fan and I don't tihnk I'm defensive. It just gets on my nerves when people start talking about his drug addiction and they don't even think about all the wonderful music he had. And the people that are not true Elvis fans and does not know about his background does not know he had a really hard life.....yeah he was crazy, but he had a hard time and no one tihnks about that. lol. And I'm in NO WAY being defensive. Just trying to answer your question :)

The level of fame he received during his life and after his death has a lot of people talking about him all the time.
There are many people who like him as a great entertainer but also as a good human being that he was.
They have to contend with the other fans who love the image and the idea.
They idolize him and deify him and it angers some.
So when those people come along to tear him down and insult EVERYTHING he's ever done and not give him credit for all the good stuff, then the fans who have real respect for him have to remind people of how important he is to them...and that he's not a bad person.
