I agree that there may be some white racist idiots over there, but why should these teens get off just becaue they are black?
The case needs to be tried in a different location to eliminate the racial and sensational element, and the black teens should pay the price for what they have done. a whole gang against one kid? Thats pretty low.

I haven't heard anyone claim they shouldn't be held accountable. The issue is that the charges of attempted murder seem out of proportion to the injuries inflicted and also inconsistent with what white boys who have done the same or similar things have been charged with. It is the disparity in charging for similar incidents that is the real issue. Assault charges seem more in line with what actually took place.

Yes they should, but the truth is that double standards don't get it. The local justice system clearly played favorites by not giving equal treatment to both sides. The white idiots that decided to do what they did, is about the same as burning the cross on someones yard and a serious hate crime action. Many black people were hung in the South, not that long ago.
I think the young black kids did what they did out of frustration. They clearly committed a serious felony, but so did the white kids. Bottom line, all of them should have been tried as either youthful offenders or adults!

Yes, they should face the consequences of their actions. A juvenile conviction and probation would be the usual consequences of a high school fight. It is inconceivable to me, and to most other reasonable people, that racism did not have some influence on the charges filed. The victim in this case was at a party later in the same day as the alleged attack occurred. Despite the fact that intent is the key to the statute (did they intend to kill him), victim impact is usually the primary impetus in deciding the level of a charge. Had the victim been severely injured and had others who were white been charged the same way, you would not have the outcry that you do for these 6 defendants.

Welcome to the South. Blacks are killing blacks everyday in gang related situations but as soon as the other side is white .. all black people come together to fight for "their" rights. How about these black protesters protest what their own people are doing to their people? Yes it was wrong for the white boys to hang knooses from the tree but physically hurting someone i believe is a more violent crime.
Do the crime .. do the time. Come on people ..

Nobody has said that they shouldn't be held accountable...but attempted murder??? That is rediculous..Did you see the kid they beat up? He had minor injuries. I've never heard of anyone in a school fight being charged with attempted murder. They should be punished yes, but not this severly.

Yes they should face the consequences of their actions. I believe the controversy is the severity of the charges.
