I'm starting to wonder if people are missing the point of the outcry about the Jenna 6, or at least my outcry.

NO one condones what the Jenna 6 did, it was cruel and wrong and they should be punished. Just like the noose incident should not be looked at lightly. HOWEVER, are people forgeting or do they not know about the Jenna 6 member who was attacked by white guys a few weeks earlier, even got his head busted open with a beer bottle, but the punishment given for that was only a battery assult charge, no jail time??

This is what I have a problem with, how can people feel it is fair to try and give these kids attempted murder, life in prison charges. Thats the inequality with all of this. wrong is wrong, no matter what color you are, but you have to be fair across the board..

This is the reason why people I know are protesting down there now, its not to justify beating up an innocent white kid because a noose was hung..

I think people are really missing the real point.

looking through these, kyfreaks response shows how people are missing the point. I never once justified what the black kids did, my statement said the complete opposite. Yet he thinks I justify it.

I brought up the previous incident to show the non-fairness of it, which he seemed to be in agreeness with. I think a lot of us would have the same view and feelings about this if we all had the same facts about the story, but it depends on which media sources people have been fueled with.

They are missing the point! The point is LET THE PUNISHMENT FIT THE CRIME, and consiracy to commit murder and attempted murder charges do not fit!! White people are also forgetting that they played a HUGE part in this, and if the noose incident was handled properly, this wouldnt even be an issue, and I hope that the DA gets disbarred, for his blatant misconduct and abuse of the legal process and system!!

Ok, a few notes about that Jena situation.
1st. The attack on the Jena 6 member was done in a private place, and the white 22 year old had several people defending him, in other words he had witnesses that disputed other witnesses.

2nd. The Jenna 6 knocked the white kid out at school, in front of witnesses that left no doubt about what they had done. In other words they made it impossible for any kind of defense, so of course a higher charge was pressed against them, they were lucky that the police could charge the 22 year old at all. It was on his property, and he had witnesses.

3rd. Everybody is making a big deal about attempted murder charges, the charge is always started high, because it is expected that lawyers will try to work it down to a lower charge.. which is exactly what happened here, not one of the black students was charged with attempted murder. not one. all charges were reduced down, before the protests.

4th. The school district did handle the situation wrong, they should have done something to make sure the nooses never happened.

5th. The noose had nothing to do with the attack, a 3 month delay in attacking someone kinda takes that excuse away, it wasn't like the noose was hung and they beat up the kids that did it at that time, they beat up a mouthy kid that couldn't keep his mouth shut, but they did it 6 on 1 and beat him after he was unconcious.

6th. I would support the cause of those protesting if they changed their protest from 'free the jenna 6' to ' Put the violent whites behind bars'

Final Note: If you want to hate anybody hate the school officials that allowed white kids and black kids to have their own special spots on school grounds. Teachers and administration should have been aware of that problem before the Black students asked if they could sit under the tree. The fact that they didn't show that they should be dealt with, however the justice system is working just fine, the black students made the situation impossible for themselves with their actions. Does it make what the white 22 year old allegedly did any better? NO. But you have to understand that the situations were different in the eyes of the Justice system, not because of race, but because of circumstance.

hmmm missing the point? so the point is that they were justified in beating the white kid because the black kid was beaten earlier by some other white kids? that's a weak argument! granted the noose hangers should have been punished for the noose hanging, however the only way someone can be punished is by breaking a law and from what i can tell LA. doesnt have a law against this! that is their bad! however i do agree the charges should have been battery instead of attempted murder. further i think every one of the kids caught beating on an individual should be charged with a racial hate crime! im assuming they charge minorities with hate crimes or is that a white specific charge?

i also think its kinda suspect as to why Jesse Jackson or Sharpton isn't in WV. supporting the girl that was held for a week by the inbreds in Logan for a week! maybe they aren't southern enough to make it a convincing racial issue.

I can say this louisiana is still lving in the past thats one part of the south I wouldn't want to live in. It's very racist towards blacks there I have been there and I know. Now it's racism everywhere but I can say I feel more safe in the ATL because atleast here I see where becoming millionaires and more etc. So it's kind of hard to profile us in the ATL. But I think these kids shouldn't be going to jail when some whites attacked black kids also and bust his head open with a beer bottle. What that racist leadership in that city is saying is a white life is better than a black life. Your saying a white can commit a crime and get less time or get away with it. If a black does something he goes to jail for life. Thats a racist government and thats the problem with mississippi and louisiana they are still living in the past and have these same ol racist laws. It's 2007 and these clowns still have these undercover klansmen in office really sad not to mention New Orleans has the problem.

Gargamel ,

It is so sad to say, many people are missing the point on whats going on in that tiny town, especially the people of Jena.

Maybe, if these incidents were handle properly in the first place an innocent would not have been harmed.

A great man once said "In justice anywhere is threat to justice everywhere" Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

I am not at all condoning violence, however I have never heard of someone charged for attempted murder over a school fight. I consider that an injustice and that is the real point.

People are missing the point and it is the medias fault. You have white media portraying the 6 black kids a murderers and almost "killing" one white kid. (Who went to a function 3 hrs later) You have black media portraying the whole town as racist and "highly segregated". Of course with these 2 different views people who don't RESEARCH on their own form biased opinions based on the media. The judical system down there F*cked up and is not treating the blacks like the whites. This is what the problem is. I am all for the march and protests, you have to be fair! I will say this time and time again as well- Jesse Jackson is just as racist as the kids that hung the nooses.

The news sucks. They tell you only half of a story and get the whole country worked up. I think that someone should hold them responsible for what they do. Tell the whole story from start to finish. About all involved. Not just part of the story that will start all this mess.
I live in Louisiana not far from Jenna and I know people that do live there. They are telling me that with all this mess they fell like the whole country is looking at the people that live in this small town like they all run around in sheets all the time. They do have good people that live there. Just like the rest of the US there is bad people in their town and good people. If this was a black on black crime I don't think that Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson would be there. The same if it was a white on white crime. I don't care if it was a pink on pink or blue on blue crime. A crime is a crime.

First of all, Violence of any nature should never be tolerated. The punishment should be equally severe for people of all races and sexes who commit violent crime. The nooses were hung by an Idiot, not the innocent kid who was nearly beaten to death by 6 other kids.
Second, the severity punishment of violent crimes should be, and is generally, issued on the basis of severity of the crime. The fact that these six kids ganged up on one innocent kid and nearly killed him tells me that they are mindless animals (and I would say the same if the races were reversed). Those malicious ******* who dragged that innocent black man to his death a few years back, I would have had them put to death. I get along with all good people, am in an inter-racial marriage, and don't see race as an excuse to be an idiot.

(I just chalk this one up to the fact that southerners are stuck fifty years in the past and are generally of inadequate intellect.)

Glad I'm not there. Stupidity breeds stupidity.

P.S.

O.J. did it.
Phil Spector also did it.
Justice is dead.
Money buys a broken judicial system off every time.
Equality has nothing to do with race anymore, it has to do with money. We, the average Americans, are sheep led to slaughter by the rich. Freedom is quickly dwindelling away and we cheer for the government to intrude on our lives more and more. Shirking our own responsibilities leads to losing our freedom.

Sad.

I think that you are right. I also think that if I have to listen to Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton too many more times I will throw up. You are right it should not matter what color the skin wrong is wrong and the same punishment for the same crimes should be dealt out. I live in South MS and I am white and I agree with you. The South needs to drag itself into the 21st century. However, if you want to talk about equalities in the South there are a good many other issues. I hate it but the South is still a racial hotbed on some issues.

I was bothered by this news story from the beginning. Not because of the reasons that so many are pointed to by hypes and grandstanding prejudiced people supported and fueled by the media, but another reason. We have HATE crime laws in this country which are Federal, and severe. Can you tell me WHY the Jenna 6, or the boys that hung the nooses were NOT charged with these?????? Hate crimes carry much more severe punishment in lieu of stiffer mandatory sentences. Sharpton should keep his prejudiced racial mouth shut and be thankful the boys weren't charged with the Federal Hate Crime law.

As a white man I think that the noose incident is to say the least in poor taste and shows poorly on the parents of the kids who put them in the tree......Kids should be raised to respect other races and cultures.......I don't know about the attempted murder charge I guess that would be dependent on the severity of the injuries recieved. They should be charged with battery black or white and take whatefver the system gives them.
