That is a weird thing isn't it... we forget we are human too and we should be gentle with ourselves as with others. We are all fighting the same battles.

We have to live with ourselves and our choices daily because they directly effect our lives. The choices others make, good or bad, do not have a direct impact on our day to day lives continuously. Also, just because we hold ourselves up to a high standard does not mean we can expect anyone else to live up to those same standards.

Because being a victim can become who you are; and it's very tough to change your identity. Also, we misinterpret our own value. The truth is, we are no better than the worst, no worse than the best. Here's a definition of forgiveness I love. "Forgiveness is giving up all hope of changing the past" peace

At the end, I think the answer is simple.
Because we have to live with ourselves.

we tend to hold ourselves to higher standards because we like to think we are capable of more than we are.

Guilt. We carry too much of it within ourselves. (at least those of us with a conscience)
