Ok people. Is this basically what happened.

Black kids sat by a tree that usually only white kids sit at.
White kids got pissed & hung the nooses.
Then later some white kid said something and 6 black kids beat the crap out of him?
Now they're in jail and now people are pissed....

Is that the just of it?

Why does it have to be a black and white thing? Can't we just look at the facts and decide on an appropriate punishment? Try looking at the issue without color and see what you think should happen. It doesnt always have to be about race, people!

First of all the nooses were not hung for a racist reason, look it up, the nooses were hung because they were playing a team called The Cowboys that Friday. Come on people the noose were in school colors!!!
The race card makes Al and Jesse loads and loads of money. When are we as a people Black, White, Asian, Hispanic, doesn't matter, going to stand up and have a march for plain old justice nothing more nothing less. I am a minority (lesbian) so yes I would have the unjust benefit of the hate crime laws, but I would never do that. I really wouldn't. We need to really strip that race card away in this country and make everyone's life equal why on earth is a white mans life worth less than anyone elses. Really why, none and I do mean none of those men were alive in the old days, and neither was anyone else.
What is the hate crime thing about anyway? If someone kills, rapes or robs your loved one do you care what type of crime it is they should be charged to the fullest extent of the law period!!!
Judging from the full story I believe the Bell fellow should be the only one charged, but not for 22 years that is just crazy. Maybe 3 to 5 considering he was on probation when this crime occurred. Isn't that how justice works if you break probation you go to jail? or did I get that wrong. As far the black fellow at the party (fight) the police were not called as I understand it. So how would the white boys be charged if there were no charges filed. Simple Right
BTW the young man that was beaten had nothing to do with the noose hanging, also the nooses were hung in Sept and the beating was in Dec long time to hold on to anger I think!!!

YOu know the biggest problem in this is the African American Figures (Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Etc..) in society that cause something like this to blow up. Now I am not saying that in any way do I agree with what has happened with the black students but here is the bigger issue and it is racism. i think that it is Racsim and not only from white people on Blacks anymore. I think that there is more Black on white Rascism these days than anything. Michael Vick was supported by Sharpton , Jesse Jackson, and other Figures in teh Aferican American community. Look into some more sports issues Donovan Mcnabb comes out and says black Qb's get no respect but who was the Number 1 draft pick./ Are there not more Black Qb's now than there ever have been. And if he just did not suck and would just get the job done on the field no one would criticize. Byron Leftwich a coupple of years ago took a white QB's job and recently was cut by the Jaguars but he is not calling it a race issue. Black people think when they do not get ahead it is the white mans fault never there own. I mean I am an overweight guy but I do not go its all the skinny peoples fault. And trust me I hear more fat jokes than I do black jokes. I just wish that we all can see that the African american Leaders are not the answer. I am not going to say that I know the answer but I know they are not the answer. They just want there face in the spotlight. I know that in the world there are just as many black people who are "n***ers" and plenty of white people who are "trash". Actually probably more trash but everyone has something that holds them down. The alchoholic parent, the fat guy, the brace face, the drug addict father, We all have a reason why ewe are not where we want to be, some of us know how to get past that and make our lives better for our childreb.

I think that the black kid who wanted to sit under tree should have been able to sit wherever he wanted without being harrased. I think the kids who hung the nooses should have been given a more severe punishment. The kids should have not beat up the boy even though he was talking bad to them. I do think that there should be punishment for the 6 black kids just not as harsh a punishment. I do believe that there punishment should be no less than the boys who hung the noose.

Enjoy this from a human being. Just glad to be alive no matter what coloror where he is from???

A black student wanted to sit under what they called the "White Tree." This made some white students mad, so they hung nooses from the tree. They only got suspended for 2 days from school. Then, 6 black kids beat up one of the white students. They got charged with attempted murder. Their sentence has now been reduced to battery for 5 of them.

They are both in the wrong. The "White Tree" should've been chopped down long ago. Hanging nooses over a tree is ridiculous and incredibly racist. We all know what that symbolizes. They should've been punished way more than they were. However, this does not give anybody the right to beat somebody up. They shouldn't have been charged with attempted murder; assault and battery I believe fits the law. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson need to keep their noses out of it because it's none of their business. They're simply trying to get their faces on tv. In fact, I believe Jesse Jackson got into this just a week after he said that Obama was acting white. That's a racist comment if I do say so myself. If I say I'm not going to vote for Clinton or whoever because they are acting black, that would be racist. Racism in this country is still very much present and still a huge problem.

i'm not answering the question because i'm pretty sure that you know the story. Anyways, this is what you call RACISM for you people who seem to be oblivious to the meaning. Everyone talks about how the black kids beat up one white boy, but the courts not considering the gun, not the nooses, or the fact tht the boy was fine hours later, that he even had a chance to attend a party. Enough of the information you already know. RACISM i'm starting to believe is coming back, like history repeating itself. from hurricane katrina which happened almost 4 years ago,and people are still suffering. and jena 6 which has been going on for a year now, and some people still don't know what it is. i rember seeing this on the news not too long ago, but the news didn't really spea on it they didn't give a full coverage on the news. so for everything to be brushed aside i think is wrong. and there is no way anyone cannot say that this was based on race. yes 6 kids aginst one is wrong and should be dealt with but not in this manner. they were aggriveted and its not just words it deeper than that, after all that blacks have been through. and the nooses weren't a joke it was a warning if anythng. and why should a black person have to ask to sit under the WHITE tree? why is there even a WHITES ONLY tree? Their trial was unfair the whole thing is unfair, and i belive thatt this violates one of our ammendments, which is about no discrimination against people based on gender, nationality, sexuality,or RACE. ima wrap this up trust i have alot more to say but so little time.

Let me help alot of you out about the entire situation. The black male asked to sit under the tree school officials said sit where you want.
He did and then the next day the nooses were on the tree. The principal wanted the 3 white males that did it to be expelled.
The superintendent turned the expulsion into a 3 day suspension and said it was a prank. (Not a prank very serious territory to play about).
A few days later black students sat under the tree to protest the decision the police and the authorities told Do you know I can take away your lives with the stroke of a pen?
This was a peaceful gathering of teenagers standing up for their rights.
Then a few weeks later at a party predominantly white a black male was jumped and beaten up with beer bottles etc. This incidents outcome was 1 white male charged with a misdeamenor charge. In between time 3 black HS students were leaving the convenient store and an ex Jena HS student pulled his shotgun on these 3 students.
They took the gun from him to prevent being shot and took the gun to authorities they charged the 3 with theft of a fire arm.
Then about a week or so after that the white male Justin something was taunting the black male that was beaten up and he got beat up at the school by black students.
The witnesses were all white other than these 6 black kids.
I do not feel like the students did nothing wrong it is always wrong when you involve violence but it should be fair to all. Equal punishment should be given to all the students that have been involved in any fights.
This is truly an injustice and this is what all the rallies are about.
I am wearing my black today to represent an injustice period. Thanks for reading.

It isn't really a fight when one kid lies unconscious on the floor of a hallway while 6 kids repeatedly kick and beat that downed kid. Sorry, if it were two kids fighting and one just got the stew beat out of him, that'd be different. This was much more than a school yard fight. The kid didn't go to a "party" afterward. He went to a kind of junior to senior ceremony where he received his class ring and left the event with his parents afterward. All parties were wrong in this case. The white kids shouldn't have hung the noose/ the black kids shouldn't have beat the kid. Yes, the noose is very offensive and emotionally meant to harm others. The beating, and that is what it's called when 6 kids attack a downed kid, is offensive, emotionally, and physically harmful. That's the kicker. Should the Jena 6 receive stern punishment from the law? Yes, I think so. Not 22 years in prison, the maximum allowed before the conviction was overturned. If you disagree, it's your right to do so, but ask yourself this...if it was your child, your little brother, your friend lying unconscious while 6 kids violently attacked them, would you think of it as a school yard fight that needed no form of punishment???

Also, read the facts...the jena times list the chron. order of the events leading up to this mess

Whipping up hate and racism is big money to Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. They make a great living off it and with the politically correct elites I don't see it going away in the USA. The elites want the races at each others throats so the can do their evil deeds without drawing attention. Blacks, Hispanics...even Illegal ones get special rights over whites and other races today. The real discrimination is the reverse one against whites, Asians, etc. People are afraid to speak the truth and stand up for themselves even though they know it is wrong for 6 to attack one person like a pack of wolves. Somebody hanging a noose in a tree doesn't make it OK to do that. If one black was attacked by 6 whites the FEDS would be in there making it a hate crime. It's a shame to see the United States turn into the PC cesspool of today but I don't see this getting any better soon with the news media promoting this propaganda. People would think differently if the government would release crime rates by races. Blacks and Hispanics commit the majority of crimes in this country especially those using violence.

I guess you can make light of what happened. But that is the ending of the story but the beginning starts in the acceptance of institutional racist behavior. The fact that the tree was even called "the white tree" is evidence of that. Another little bit of evidence is how that Judge is still a Judge. How can someone be so openly biased and still be a public official? These two facts alone stress the need for affirmative action(because if African Americans can't get justice in the courts then there has to be LAWS established so that people can't do as they see fit because of personal shortcomings). The sad thing is that the victims of hate crimes have been tried as adults because of the systems unwillingness to punish whites that attack the civil rights of minorities. If the right thing had happened at the start then there wouldn't be a need to have all of this publicity for something that should have ceased as soon as african americans were manumitted from the bondage of slavery . Jim Crow still lives in 2007 sad to say.

Everyone knows the basic facts of the case. What no one is saying, least of all the "Reverends" Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, is that there are at least 2 hate crimes to be punished here. The hanging of nooses is not "prank." That's a terrorist threat. For the Jena school board to reduce the expulsion of the white students to a basic suspension and to not charge them with a hate crime is a failure on the part of said school board, LaSalle Parish and Louisiana. Also, the gang-style beating of the white child by the 6 black children is ALSO a hate crime, as its origins were in the original case. Call me crazy, but at the very least, the jumping of one child by six is, at the very least, assault. I have yet to have written proof of any story about a gun. I believe certainly that each side has made embellishments. At the end of the day, this IS NOT a 21st century Selma or Birmingham or Skokie or Watts. The agitators from outside of Jena need to go home, and the let the federal courts handle both hate crimes.

Regardless of what was said verbally or done with the nooses once you lay hands on a person and kick him while he's on the ground you are way out of line. Nothing justifies that action...nothing. If you can knock a person out with your hands you most certainly can kill them with a swift kick to the skull. The kids may not have realized it at the time but ignorance is no excuse. This guy could easily have been killed, 6...I say again 6 strong healthy young men were punching, kicking on one guy. Those blows add up very quickly, this is not a school yard fight this was a vicious 6 on 1 beating and there is no way to make it sound any better than that. Maybe if these boys had some kahones they would have fought one on one like we used to when I was a kid. 6 on 1 = jail plain and simple.
