It depends on how much hCG your body produces. I had SEVERAL negative urine tests with both my children (for up to 3 months into my pregnancy) but with my second child I had my blood drawn the DAY AFTER I missed my period and the test was positive (I was approx 4 weeks preg). Remember - no matter what you are going to read here, EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT :)
Good luck to you!!

It can be as accurate as it say on the box if you do the instructions excatly as it says to do. I did a test one time and I didn't do as the paper instructed, I sat the test unleveled and the result window was showing postive, but in the other window the line was somehow wrong. I thought I was preggie, but I took another test and did it right and it was negative. It doesn't matter what brand you should get, they'll all show the same results. I used the same brand again this year and it was positive, I went out to buy 2 more just to make sure, and surely they were postive.

Go to your local drug store and ask for a EPT test. EPT has a test out now you can take as early as 3 or 5 days before your missed period. I'm not sure about other brands but your pharmacist should be able to tell you which test you can take before your missed period.
Hope you get some good news soon and Congratulations in advance mommy!

A blood test would tell you know. There is a brand of urine tests on the market (in the US) that claims it works 5 days before your missed period, but they are expensive and not always accurate. I'd look for that one. Not sure the exact name, but something like early response. Congrats!

I tested positive 5 days after expected period did not come. The line showed up strong and right away so I think it might have showed up a few days earlier, but how much earlier I cannot be sure.

Try using an OPK to test - sometimes they are more sensitive or an internet super early test (10uML) as I showed to be pregnant on these way earlier than first response! Good luck! x

If you think you may be pregnant, you can take a simple test using a blood sample or urine sample to find out. The blood test can be taken as early as 8-10 days after ovulation and the urine test can be taken as early as 12-14 days after ovulation. Both types of tests are looking for the presence of hCG (human chorionic gonadotopin). This hormone assists in the production of progesterone and helps maintain the pregnancy. Your body begins to produce hCG the moment a fertilized egg is implanted into the uterus. From there, the levels of hCG in your blood will double every 2-3 days.
The blood test will need to be performed at your doctor's office or at the hospital. A small sample of blood will be drawn and tested for hCG, the hormone present in large quantities during pregnancy. There are two types of blood tests, the qualitative hCG test and the quantitative hCG test. The qualitative hCG test will only give you a negative or positive result. The quantitative hCG test will actually measure the amount of hCG that is present in your blood. If your hCG level is over 5 mIU on either type of blood test, you are pregnant.
The urine test can be performed at home or at your doctor's office. Many women prefer to do this one at home. The tests can be bought over-the-counter at your local drugstore or super market. The tests are very simple and straightforward. All they require is a urine sample. Within a few minutes, you will have a result. It is possible to get a false negative if you have tested to early. It is unlike to get a false positive, unless you have received an injection of hCG recently. Some pregnancy tests are more sensitive than others and will logically test positive earlier than others. An average woman will produce about 25 mIU/ml of hCG at 10 days after ovulation. Here is a list of some of the most popular tests and their sensitivity to hCG.
