Perhaps a little research before asking the next question would be in order. Ghosts usually follow the paths that existed when they were alive. In fact they do fall through floors when the original floor was lower than the newer floor as the story I provided (see link below) demonstrates.

Your question also demonstrates your unawareness (or your unwillingness to become aware) of different ideas about ghosts while deceased spirits is one explanation an event recorded in the atmosphere is another. The recorded image theory makes your question equivalent to asking "Why when someone is shot on TV doesn't the bullet come out of the screen and hit what is closest to the TV?"
Another explanation is ESP that suggest the person acquires information and the brain creates a hallucination in order to process the information. Unless a person actually fell through a floor in life this information is unlikely to be displayed.

Well i've personally never seen an actual ghost but you probably got this idea from watching too many movies.

In the movies they usually depict the ghost floating just above ground. which means that if they wanted to they could go through the wall, ceiling or floor if they wanted to.

If they do exist i'm sure they occupy matter..how else would you see them? the light has to reflect off something.

and i love your answer melodica player :P

Maybe they're walking the same paths they walked in life.

The ground was always in the same place, but the walls might have been different...

So if they're walking around in the house that they see as having the walls that it did before it was remodeled/rebuilt, then perhaps they're looking at you, wondering why you're walking through their walls but not falling through their floor!

great question! i think the only answer is that we can imagine ghosts to be able to do anything they want, unless we can prove they exist and test that idea.
