My friends husband will not allow them to have friends and socialize. They have been married for two years and do not socialize at all. They never go to friends or have friends over for dinner, etc. He tells her they are not ready for friends and makes strange excuses, like most people that are from his culture are not good people (at other times they are the best people in the world). It is as though he is ashamed of her.

What "culture" has no friends?

Sounds like he is just controlling her.

It is very possible that he doesn't accept where he is at in life. To be social, alot of "men" feel that they should have certain things in life set up before they can " show off" all that they have accomplished. Such as having a Big screen TV, or that suede leather couch, Nice dishes to have dinner with. Anything that has to do with his "ego" will probably be the reasons to most cases. He may not be as much controlling as subconcious about the way he lives. Maybe his home doesnt stay clean enough to invite anyone over? It all weighs the same. As for going out? Maybe he feels he doesn't have the money to show for? Its all about impressions! It will change soon. Hang in there and if its your friends husband, just be their for your friend. Im sure she needs you! Goodluck to you and your friend(s) Hope I helped a little. <3 Tab

i was in a relationship like that......thank goodness i got out before we got married and it was too late.
he was controling and posessive and wanted me to be this princess in a glass house.....there for the world to see, but only he could touch.
i hated it b/c i am a VERY social person....

i found a man who is social like me and it's nice.

i wish your friend all the best and i hope she is happy and not stuck in a bad realtionship.

take care:)

He is controlling her! Seems like he wants a doormat instead of a wife.

Probably not ashamed....but the way i see it, he's probably really insecure and wants to keep her only for him.If they are happy this way let it be...

Until she decides she wants better, there's really nothing you can do.
