I hear strange tapping and pinging noises when the heating is on. Someone mentioned that I may need to bleed the radiators. Is this correct…Please can someone give advice on what is going on and how I stop this?

If your heating system uses an electronic filter, the tapping noise is normal.

Most likely air trapped in the system. On the radiator there should be a small piece at one end - usually brass- which has a square hole in it. You get a special key at a hardware store- just ask foir a radiator key to bleed your radiator. They are not expensive. Take the key and insert it in the square hole in your radiator and (with the heating turned on and pumping round the system) turn the key slowly anti-clockwise - you should hear a hissing sound as the air is forced out of the system. Have a rag in your other hand and keep it just under the key. As soon as any liquid comes out of the radiator turn the key back to close it up. Repeat on all the radiators in the system.

While it could be air in the system, it could also be just the pipes expanding. This is normal. A pipe could also be rubbing against a stud in the wall while expanding.
