Sometimes it's to make themselves look better.
I knew a person once like that. It was like their mission in life to bring down other people, by whatever means they could.
Many people where hurt by this person.~~~~~~~~~
If there is someone like this in your life. Step back & evaluate the situation & your options to either change it, or get away from it. Life is to short for this nonsense. Good luck to you.

Try not to let them bring you down because if you think about it they are so miserable with themselves that all they no how to do is try to hurt someone else to make them feel better!! Just feel sorry for them and Know that it's not even worth fretting over!! Good luck!

They can try with all their might but unsuccessfully....I won't ALLOW them to do that to me...I usually bring them down a notch..Cause I love life and love to laugh and it really bugs some people to see me so happy when they no I had a lot of curve balls thrown at me....

Because they have nothing better to do. Often such behavior is fueled by the''rise'' they get out of doing damage. It's along the same lines as ''negative attention'' in children. They do it because it's easy to do something wrong and they receive attention for it.

They try to bring me down, but I usually don't let it get to me. When they do get to me, I spend money until I feel better.

Because they are masochistic and jealous. It burns them to see anyone having it better than them so they will do what ever is possible to knock you down so they could look better in their own eyes
