Try sudocream, you may have left it on a wee bit too long. It used to happen to me but not anymore, perhaps my skin has become used to the cream. In future always used sensitive cream to be on the safe side.

This has happened to me and I put ice on it (which I ran under a tap first to stop it from sticking to my lip!! )
Perhaps you left the cream on too long..? either that or you rubbed it off too harshly? If not, your skin isn't taking too kindly to the cream. Do think about using wax strips or threading... apparantly waxing long term can make the skin wrinkly and using the cream creates a visible colour difference between ur upper lip and the rest of your face.. perhaps you won't notice this if you are of caucasian ethnicity but it was too apparant for me! Don't use any creams near your lips for at least 24 hours, as it should say on the tube...
hope the pain goes away soon...

Didn't the cream have a second tube of soothing cream with it?
If not - have you any Aloe Vera? Thats great for this sort of thing.
Update - I don't think it's totally normal for this to happen. You did remove all the removal cream very thoroughly didn't you?

Use Germoline
I have a cold and I put it under my nose to stop redness and soarness, it's invisible and really relieves it.
It may sting a little but Germoline is also a antisptic which is another advantage

That's totally normal after using a depilatory, first of all. Secondly, a cotton ball soaked in cold milk is great for irritated skin. It sounds strange, but it should work.

Leave it alone. Don't use soap or any fragranced cream for the rest of the day as the skin is sensitive. Remember, you just put BLEACH on your skin.

are you sure it was for the face? did you leave it on longer than the correct timing? didnt you do a patch test on your skin to see if you might be allergic? I'd see a doctor if it didnt heal in more than a week.

Aloe vera gel as it's a natural product and has no fragrance to it. You can find it in health shops and chemists.
