To schufs: if you think the Red Sux fans have really been ho-hum this year about being in 1st all year you have one or more of the following issues: illiteracy, stupidity, or blindness. ALL year I've heard nothing but their big lead, Yankees won't make the playoffs, Yankees suck, Yankees are done. And this is all from my friends that are Boston fans so imagine what I've heard from the people I dont like.

In a way it is like '78 again because it's a psychological thing and if the Yankees take the division it's most likely going to end Boston's season as far as how well they play in the playoffs. It's already effected their play and it's still a race.

Seems like no matter what happens nobody wants to admit that the Yankees are the best team RIGHT NOW. Anybody realize the Yankees have lost a total of 3 series since the break?

The Sox have completely fallen apart over the last few weeks, but until the Yanks win it all they should not be happy. With the payroll the Sox and Yanks spend, it just shows that having the best talent doesn't mean anything. The Marlins have won the WOrld Series and they shelled out $150,000,000.00 less in salary than the Yanks did. The way its going the Sox and Yanks will both make the playoffs, but they'll lose in the Division Series or ALCS to the Angels, and then the Brew Crew will win the world series. What is up with Manny Ramirez? When you're making $20,000,000.00 a year, sick days need to be kept to a minimum.

as much as I like most people can't stand the Yankees, I was wrong about them coming back.

I agree though, it doesn't matter the Red Sox are still going to the playoffs either way.

It's kind of like how Minnesota took the Division from the Tigers last year but they still both went to the playoffs, and the Wild Card Tigers ended up in the World Series. So it could be a 2006, were the Yankees win the Division, but the Red Sox go to the series you never know.

I'm not a Red Sox fan(or Mets or Yanks) but this ain't '78... just try to remember a few years ago when the Red Sox won the wild card and then came back from being down 3-0 and defeated the Yanks and then won the World Series...
Besides, in '78, there was no wild card to claim... the REAL division race is in the NL Central where the loser will NOT make the playoffs... and if you say, well neither team is good enough to win anything else, just remember last year's Cards, who went 84-78 but still won the World Series...
Yankee fans FINALLY have something to talk about and they act like they have been in first ALL year... ACT LIKE YOU'VE BEEN THERE ALREADY, not like you are excited that you might be passing the Red Sox for the very first time...
I really haven't heard any Red Sox fans that have been overly excited during any point of the season that they are leading the Yankees... they are mostly just like ho-hum, like they have always been ahead of them...
The playoffs are where the Yankees need to perform, and frankly, they haven't performed well in the postseason since 2000...
thanks for the thumbs-downs, but let's just remember the biggest most monumental collapse in major league history... hmmm... a few years back, there was a team that was up 3 games to ZERO and only a few innings away from sweeping the series... I'm sure Yankee fans NEVER want to relive that "ALL OVER AGAIN"...

Hey lets not start celebrating just yet....The Yankees need to get into the PLAYOFFS and WIN......ALDS, ALCS, and the SERIES......They have a up hill fight all the way The Angels, The Tribe and the SOX....2004 still haunts me to this day so even though I am a die hard Yankee fan and I will admit I never thought they would be in the position they are in right now after all that has occurred throughout the season....I am optimistic Yankee Fan!!!

"1978" How about last year. While Yankee fans and Red Sox fans can argue over who is best it will probably be the team from the "lowly" N L Central that wins the World Series.

It really isn't like 1978 because in 2007 the Sox will make the playoffs, they did not then. As long as you are in it you can still win it. !978 they had no chance, their season was done.

Hey, I think the Sox are about to be en fuego.

Neither they nor the Yankees have a game today, so they can't lose any more ground for at least another day, lol.

Bad as it is, not that Steinbrenner buys his way
cough/hint/cough,

it's the redundancy that's unbearable.

"Relive...all over again."

Mmm. Mmhmm. Impressive.

While I'm glad that they are 1 1/2 lets not brag yet. They still need to take over first place which I'm confident they will.
