There are maximum penalties for various crimes and the amount of the penalty is up to the judge. This in a way is justice (not that I agree with 9 months for a pedophile), as the "fake trainer" seller is ripping off both the buyers and the company that makes the real version - however I doubt that the maximum would be sentenced for a first offense.

As to the 9 months, it seems extremely low, but without knowing what went on in the trial is is hard to judge. Perhaps the accused convinced the judge that they were truly sorry and would completely reform. I personally would banish pedophiles to a remote island...

Not sure where you are from but the subject of Justice has always been subjective. For every person who feels they have received it another feels they have been slighted. I believe the problems in the system are directly related to the system and its structure. Have you noticed that almost everyone involved in government is now a Lawyer? The Justice system at one time was made up of both Lawyers and non lawyers, many justices of the peace where non lawyers. Now in most (if not all of) the US members of the Judiciary must have a Law degree. This has resulted in a system that was once based on Law and equity becoming only a system based on the written law. This shift has resulted in the courts and the justice they deliver often not being equitable (having a greater reliance on strict guide lines set out by the legislative branch as to sentences for specific crimes often defined by separate legislation in different secessions having no relevance to the relationship of each crime to another over all). This problem is also compounded by the fact that most of our elected representatives are also part of the same law school graduate club and having been indoctrinated in the workings of justice as defined by the legal community as opposed to equity and common sense. As a result the system and the inequities keep growing and the common man and his common sense of right and wrong continues to become more and more irrelevant. Eventually this leads people to question both their own sense of justice and the relevance of the legal system to their own life. Eventually and inevitably this then results in people picking and choosing what rules and regulations they will follow and which they will ignore. This is IMHO why we have lost respect for our government and its leaders and is reflected in the polling numbers received when people are questioned about politicians and the government. Once again we have not learned from history and will probably be doomed to repeat it.

I am not sure what a fake trainer is, but you're correct, judges have too much discretion.

In short, no, there is no justice. Seek the mercy of the Holy Mother, for justice is man-made and mercy is Divine.
