Hi,

This is a general enquiry, I am an IFA and I am looking for a way to get in touch with the people who actually need the services of a Financial Adviser.

Could any one give me any hints how best to advertise my servcies in this area, or if anyone is infact interested? I work in midlands united kingdom.

Many thanks.

I live in the Midlands also (Birmingham).

I work for a law firm and we frequently make referrals to Financial Advisors as we work in the Wills, Tax and Probate & Divorce section. Many of our clients use the services of financial advisors and need recommendations.

What generally happens is that these connections are made by the financial advisors attending networking meetings with other professionals (e.g. in my case Solicitors). You can make some strong links with such people and refer business back and forth.

You can also advertise. I've never actually seen a financial advisor struggling for business- but maybe it is very hard when you are just starting out and have no reputation or base of contacts and people you know. In this respect i cannot really advise, but i do know that once you have the connections you will never be short of work.

Best of luck.

Sorry to say, just now, people seem to have very little confidence in the financial services sector ..

.. if it's not Endowment miss-selling or collapsing Pension companies it's unfair bank charges and concerns over safety of our money (Northern Rock) ..

My best advise would be to specialise in Debt Management & IVA's .. everyone seems to be up to their necks in Credit Card debt and other loans (at least from some of the questions posted here) ..

How about volunteering your services to CAB for an hour or so a week ?

I like your openness. I think the best way is for your co. to advertise in newspapers and periodicals.

But I used to know two chaps who were selling insurance investment products. They made good sales by buying lists of investors in a given area, inviting them to a 1/2 day seminars with refreshments etc and making presentations to them.

Have you thought of setting up a website? Obviously there will also be issues asked in answers which require IFA's knowledge so you can get your details across in that way.
All the best.
