It depends what kind of snail. Land snail reproduces through sexual reproduction by transfering sperm from the body of the male directly into the body of the female by copulation. Aquatic snail also reproduces through sexual reproduction, however the male and female sheds their gametes (eggs and sperm) in the water, where fertilization occurs.

Snails are hermphrodites, meaning they have BOTH sexes. All they need is to find another snail of their species. This is generally done by finding another snail through phermones in the slime they leave in their wake. Then it differs between species the actual 'act of mating'. Some gather in a hoard and all have sex with one another, while others have a ritualistic and time consuming mating.

i know that garden snails mate. The male snail has a bone like structure that comes out of the neck of the snail. It is then stabbed into the female to transfer. I know it sounds bizarre but it is true.
