RipHim is definitely on the mark in his comments about the news media. The news media in the USA have persuaded the American people to believe quite a few untruths. The biggest untruth that the news media have persuaded the American people to believe is that the news media are liberal.
As to big-government, big-spending Republican Presidents, it is nothing new. At least as far back as Nixon, nearly every Republican President has added to the national debt as much as all the Presidents who preceded him since 1789. They talk the talk, but don't walk the walk. Bill Clinton, on the other hand, created a budget surplus which was actually threatening to wipe out the National Debt over a period of years. So as soon as Bush the Younger got in, he and his buddy Alan Greenspan slashed taxes and dramatically increased spending.
But, to answer your question directly, they support Bush because he is a Republican. Most people do not form their values and then choose a party based on them. They choose their party and conform their values to the vagaries of that party.

mass media is a very powerful tool. conservatives on both sides of the aisle recognize this and influence it using market forces that have existed since advertising began.
advertisers have a vested interest in making sure news is pro-business and anti-left. news media does not want to lose advertisers as there would be no one to pay for it. government is smart enough to understand this and pander to both advertisers and news media corporations (by corporate welfare that is prevalent in both the democratic and republican party.) to directly influence the news to keep us misinformed.
that is why republicans can support a president that goes against his own stated agenda. mass media can actually make people believe 2+2=5
note that this isn't really a conspiracy. it is just an understanding of market forces. the government has an interest in keeping americans from seeing all sides of an issue. advertisers do too.
the best part about this however is that the subsidies that the government gives the news media are paid by the taxpayers. the government makes us pay for the propaganda they pump into our heads.
it's a beautiful system.

At this point Republicans who favor Bush tend to be self serving fascists. Notice how they don't support the Constitution?
They certainly have changed since the days of Eisenhower.
But remember its an ever shrinknig group that do.

Maybe you haven't noticed this, but many of us don't continue to support Bush. I didn't know what a liberal he was until after he was re-elected. Fine time to tell me Lucille.

Perhaps the same reason Democrats support their party.. but then what party is any good... the all lie and tell you what you want to hear so they can get elected.
