One reason is because men have higher earning capabilities and the woman often has put her job/career path on hold in order to care for children and family.
However, I have lately been seeing a huge discrepancy whereby the females are not only getting settlements that totally impoverish the males, but they don't even have to show how the money is being used. Want a new car? Take the ex back for more child support!
Now the flip side is the females like myself. Since I have not one but 2 jobs, apparently my poor poor ex doesn't have to be responsible for anything, not his children, not even himself. He was ordered to pay 30% under the state minimum and still has not even attempted to pay his child support or see his children. Guess the court thinks I don't need any help!

please don't go there! but yes, it can seem that way! Sometimes women are seen more as victims and less as independant people. Men should be able to take care of themselves but I also believe it is important for a woman to be able to never have to depend on a man financially. The Courts look at every person differently, but then again, may women if going to court for divorce, are not as well off as husbands since they have the children and need more help financially.

Well, I don't see any judges answering this question. I have been there and women are normally given the benefit of the doubt. Social stereotyping as the man is normally the bad guy and at fault and many times when it's just he said she said, she wins without having any kind of evidence. Girlfriends have also been known to jump in for things that they weren't even there for or never happened.....it's like preventive medicine except its preventive justice, have him thrown in jail before any crime is even committed because he might do that and it sounds like what a man would do mentality.

That is not the case in most cases. However, if the woman brings up adultery or abuse of any kind or something not right with the children, then that automatically puts the man out. There are so many men who do not step up to their responsibilities and it reflects on all men. I am assuming most of this has to do with their maturity level. Most mature men will step up to the plate and handle their responsibilities in a proper manner.

It really depends on the circumstances..but nowadays, most judges treat noth parties equally, and try to lean towards shared parenting .

well, I think if the man cheated, or was abusive, the woman should get treated better... but in the cases where the divorce is happening for dumb reasons, then, they should get treated equally...
