Yes, I have been blocked several times, and I do mean on answers!!!
You are right bigkahuna my man, its because you dont agree, not for being offensive, although I must admit I have got out of my pram on occasion, I have been blocked and reported for quite trivial things. Lets ban blocking I say!!!

I havent experienced either side of this yet but after only being a member on here for a few weeks I have come across a lot of creepy, nasty minded people. I think its best to stay away from answering any questions whch name other YA users, or if they clearly confrontational.
The debate is the great thing about this site and even though i wholeheartedly disagree with some people's points of view they are perfectly entitled to be heard.

I agree. I don't post abusive or offensive things but I've been blocked by a couple people. I'm totally unfamiliar with these people and can't fathom why they would block me. If someone is such a baby that they have to block someone just because they don't agree with them then maybe this isn't the forum for them. The only people I've ever blocked are the ones who have blocked me. This is strictly done for convenience purposes. Their questions have the red circle so then I know not to waste the time clicking on them only to see "you cannot answer this question at this time".

Mostly I have blocked trolls - there have been some truly creepy ones around. I've blocked people who are abusive as well. As Eden says, if you wouldn't want to know these people in 'real life' why put up with them on y/a?

someone posted a 'question' on here discussing 'fiddling' (their words) with my terminally ill child. That was hard enough to have to read, but the subsequent answers were for the most part equally disturbing and sick. So yes, I exercised my right to block every single one of them that joined in and laughed about it, and found the whole idea entertaining for however long it took them to giggle over their keyboards as they typed their sick twisted replies.
I blocked them and except for one (who has had the decency to make amends), they have remained blocked. As has been said already, if we wouldn't associate with them outside in our day to day lives, why tolerate them on here? I couldn't physically hurt them, and blocking them has had no bearing on their existence, it just made me feel that little bit better.

Although I often agree with you, in this case I beg to differ. I have freedom of choice. I have never posted a question about an individual and blocked them, but it has been done to me many times, that's cowardly and unfair. There is only so much twisted, repetitive, hate filled nonsense I am prepared to listen to. There are some interesting, intelligent and thought provoking members of this site. I especially enjoy posts that have points of view that I had never considered. I like learning new things.
But there are many I would not be prepared to listen to, once I had the gist of what they are saying. I would not listen to a group of Paedophiles, I would not listen to a group of KKK members, it would sicken me and for the same reasons, I will not listen to repetitive drivel that disgusts me. Why should I? I don't have to justify to anyone how I choose to spend my time. I have blocked many who have disgusted me. There are also lots of people with whom I disagree who I have not blocked because they are not twisted, nasty or illogical. My time is precious to me, why would I want to waste it with puerile ranting hatred? It also affects me when I hear truly hate filled statements. I find bitterness distasteful, unsettling and a waste of time.
Also since I have started blocking the truly blinkered haven't received the violation notices I did before.

It's only in the last 4 weeks that I've learned what this 'blocking' is about. I accidently pressed that box once, when I didn't know what it was for, and can't for the life of me remember who it was... I meant to give them a thumbs up...lol
I do think it's a good idea....if you get fed up with a certain person stalking you, it's good to be able to block them.

I accidentally pressed the wrong button one day but imediately withdrew it. we have freedom of speech so should be able to say what we feel. If I don't agree with someone or don't like their bad language I either ignore them or at worst a thumbs down -not blocking-it's like the naughty- stair!

I have been blocked by people just for giving answers, and polite ones at that, that don't follow their rule of thumb. I have blocked people who have been abusive towards me though, there are some really sick people out there!
