Can I view photo thumnails on a Mac?

Is it possible to view thumbnail photos on a mac without using iphoto? Can they be viewed by thumbnail in their own folders? It seems to me they can only be viewed by label.

You surely can. Just open or highlight the folder, pick "view" and "show view options" from the menu bar up top and check the "show icon preview" box.
