After putting on the life jacket properly, look over the side and make sure you are not jumping on to any floating debris or other people. Then grab the collar of the jacket with your arm across your chest and hold it down. With your free hand, squeeze your nose closed. Look straight out towards the horizon and step off, feet first. After surfacing, swim away towards a life raft or rescue boat.

Above are good and also on this question before. ;-)
But, everyone forgot the most important thing. Grab a big knife before you jump. If, sharks attack, stab the closet person to you and swim away. Learned this Scuba Diving. :-D

Go down with the ship.
Judging by your name you must be female, and every captain knows he is the captain because he has his wife's permission to say so.
A good captain always goes down with the ship, and the reason for this is, God help him when the lawyers and courts get finished with him, he is better off dead.
This is unless the usual rule is applied, "Can you blame someone else?"
"No", "You poor *******".
"Yes you can" no problem.......
I know, I know, I'm just being a **********
