Turns out:-

The dossier doesn't revolve entirely around Kate & Gerry and was just updating the judiciary on where they are on the investigation.

Why did press get it so badly wrong?

Its not fair on the suspects and its not fair on the family of the missing girl.

g8bvl - 'people like you'?! Do you mean the people who log on and Q and A on the Maddy case?

No that is called being interested in current affairs. We are all keen to hear developments in the case. There is nothing worng with that.

Skidoo and Ruthy - I think now we are in 2007 police might find it helpful to explain their processes. I dont think that is too much to ask and it would take a lot of pressure and criticism off them

Enlightenment at last...

The press got it so badly wrong only to service their own selfish purposes regardless of how unfair & unjust it was to the suspects & Madeleine's family.

Thats why its silly to base one's opinon on the bases of the media's judgement. Its far wiser & more mature to gather all the facts you can from various sources available & make your own logical & unbiased judgement.

The Portuguese police have no reason to explain because they're in Portugal where people understand the process. The press is less interested in disseminating information than in selling papers; it's easier to create sensational headlines than to explain the intricacies of another country's legal procedures.

Scummy Gutter Press.

They are responsible for totally & utterly ruining Kate & Gerry's lives & their reputations as Doctors... and lets face it, their lives were already in a pretty sh*t state.

Disgraceful persecution of an innocent couple living under unbearable circumstances

The reason the press got it so badly wrong is quite simple, the media picked the bone up and ran with it, then people like you were craving every bit of information that could be found.

This led to sensationalism being used to sell papers here and abroad, which the public lapped up.

The McCann's wanted this to be in the media spotlight and unfortunately not all publicity is good publicity and when they are being tried 50+ times a day on here alone I think that speaks volumes as to what this has turned into.

The finger should be firmly pointed at the gutter press here for infactual sensationalising reporting, not the Porugese police and judicial system.

Why should the Portuguese explain ANYTHING ??
This Crime happened in their country NOT the UK !
This is their Law and that's that..whether we like or not here in the UK, is irrelevent....and who are we to tell them how to do their job or what their Law's should be ??
Let's face it..the bulk of the speculation and rumours have come from the British Media anyway...why oh why am i not surprised ?

Every country have their own laws and they should respect them.
Also if it was so important that statement to happen I believe that the very very expensive PR they would have would've request that by now...
