Does it matter how you grip the racquet, or what form you take when hitting the ball, or your footwork, as long as you can play right?

Also if the ball touches behind the base line, is it out?

The type of grip that you use on the racket will determine the type of shots that you will have... for example, since I have a Semi-Western grip, I tend to have more spin on my shot and therefore is a safer shot. Form is also important because it will also have an effect on your shots... simply being athletic and "being able to play" is only one of the many factors that goes on in tennis.

Yes, if the ball hits behind the base-line, it is out.

The grip is really one of the part determine how well you hit the ball, and what kind of shot you want to produce. So, it really does matter, but it doesn't mean you cannot beat the other by holding racquet unorthodoxically. The grip is more like a body mechanism to generate a better hit, all about physic here. If you have a proper grip, you can give your flow of swing in the optimal level.

Yes, it is out when the ball touches behind the baseline.

Yes, it matters a lot. Your game will have weaknesses as you get more competitive if you hold the racquet wrong or have a strange form. Yes, the ball is out if it hits behind the base line.

Grip is key. Without a good grip, you're not gong to be able to control the ball with topspin, or any of the other kinds of "english" you can put on a ball when you get better. Now the REAL question is, do you hit one-handed or two-handed. I've never understood two handed players.
