actually, i don't really understand your (3 person) second answer. let me repeat the question again. i am a cameraman, and my son is in the photo, so based on the manner, i ak him a permission before i take a picture of him, so how do i ask him. can you repeat the answer for me? thank.

can i call u "E", can u explain clearly the "can" , "could" and "would" and give me more example. normally, i simply use the asking question like may, would, .............i am a chinese, i hope u can expalin clearly . thank you

1) Would you take a picture of (or for) me?
'Would' implies that you are asking another person's agreement to perform an action in the future.
'Could' implies that you are simply asking if it is possible for the person to perform the action in the future. Their response would not necessarily mean that they WILL perform.
'Can' implies that you are asking if it is possible for the person to perform the action AT ALL.
'Of' implies that you are IN the picture.
'For' could mean that you are in the picture, or you are not.

2) Would you like to be in a picture? OR
Would you like me to take a picture of you?
If a person 'takes a picture', they are the cameraman who presses the button and snaps the picture, not the subjects of the photograph.

3) I would like to take a picture of you. Would you mind standing still?
Again, 'can' implies possibility, not action.

4) 'Would you like to take a picture with me?' is technically acceptable, but more correctly, you would say:
Would you like to be in a picture with me?
(Same as 2.)

E's answer is excellent. I will add only one more explanation: When you say, "can you..." it really means, "are you able.." When you use the word "may" it means you are asking for permission to do something. In everyday English, the word "can" is often incorrectly used to mean "may." Here is an example: A child wishes to leave the table and asks his parents for permission to do so. He asks, "Can I leave the table?" The parent responds, "You can, but you may not." This means that the child is able to physically leave the table but the permission to do so is denied by the parent.

Hi,
I’m just adding a bit to Bethany’s answer.
I agree with (1)
(2): If you want to ask you son if you can take a picture of him, it’s either:
‘Would you like me to take a picture of you?’
Or;
‘May I take a picture of you?’ (This is the usual way to ask for permission).
(3) I agree, but there should be a comma after ‘you’, not a full stop. 'Can' is okay here for informal use.
(4) If you want to be in the picture with the other person, it is more correct to say to them:
‘Would you like to have your picture taken with me?’
Or:
‘Would you like to be in the picture with me?’

1)
Can you take a picture for me? means you want the person to take a photo, rather than you taking it yourself.
Could you take a picture of me? means you want the person to take a photo of you.

2)
Would you like to take a picture? and Do you want to take a picture? both mean you are asking your son if he wants to use the camera to photograph something.

3)
I would like to take a picture of you. can you stand still? This is okay.

4)
Would you like to take a picture with me? This is okay.

I think that in any of those situations, everyone would know what you were asking. Your grammar is almost perfect. It is probably better than most Americans who know English as a first language!

I'm an admirer of anyone who attempts to learn another language and does it successfully enough for other native speakers to understand! Good for you!

:)
