although im not a chelsea fan, i feel it is bad for the game for such a charachter to leave. he brightened the game up and was a breath of fresh air when he arrived, never scared to speak his mind and was a huge success.

as for a replacement, i would go for gus hiddink or fabio capello, both managers who are proven to d owell at the highest level

I'm not a football fan nor a supporter of Chelsea, however, I'd just like to say that Mourinho brought more to football than any other larger than life character I can ever remember. I know people who watched Chelsea play [as seen on TV] just because of him and how he has influenced the spread of interest in the 'Beautiful Game' world-wide.

Whoever is responsible for Mourinho leaving Chelsea, will surely live to rue the day. No matter who they are. Even an Oligarch can have a stomach-ache for which there is no cure.

This is a very sorry time for Chelsea FC.

Grown men weeping outside the ground, whatever next?

The loss of a great manager. Avram Grant is now being speculated to take over this afternoon. The Russian has gone mad ... He had one of the World's greats, now he has a personal friend who worked with Israel and Portsmouth. What on earth is the matter with him? Me thinks he is in a mid-life crisis - new A380, new yacht, new woman, oh I know I'll get myself a new manager. Trouble is now he's destroyed the "magic" which has taken years of Gullit, Vialli, Ranieri and Mourinho to obtain he's taken Chelsea down to the levels of the West Ham's and Manchester City's of this World. By this I mean run of the mill and sack a manager regularly!

As a long time Chelsea supporter I've seen it all before - remember selling Osgood, Hudson et al, sack the manager, struggle, build a new team, relegation, sack the manager ... Here we go again .....

And there's no way that the REAL Chelsea fans can afford Mr Abramovioc's prices. £40 a ticket is way beyond a lot of our pockets for a Tuesday night. AND for good measure the television companies don't seem to appreciate that kick-offs at 7.45 on a midweek are difficult for most of us. Chelsea's REAL fan base doesn't live in London it comes from the suburbs and shires. Just have a look at them all on Victoria and Charing Cross Stations every Saturday, or should I now say Sunday, Monday, Tuesday ... I'm sure you'll see the point!

I think Jose leaving Chelsea is a bit disappointing he is a good manager and really likes the challenges of the premier league but maybe it was time for him to go Chelsea dnt seem to have progressed in there football from last season to this season(even though its just started) but i understand how that goes, me being an arsenal supporter I've had to endure seeing arsenal not achieve but many time that's due to wenger reconstruction of the side and maybe that's what Jose was trying to achieve we will never know.
alot of the problem with football stems from the owners interfering to much yes you own the club but your management team runs it let them do there job.
If i was going to speculate on a new manager i would say due to the resent statements made by the Barcelona board i would say Frank rikkard is a distinct possibility Barcelona haven't been playing that well at the start of this season but Barcelona playing bad isn't really that bad is it.
If this does happen then i think Jose mourinho will be Barcelona first choice he was there before under Robson and the fans i think would except him whether it happens is to be seen.

Another Man Utd fan here, I really don't know who would want the job to be honest. Football is a sport, perhaps a vastly overpaid one but nevertheless a sport. Results cannot be guaranteed, any team can have a bad patch. Success cannot be bought. It appears that the Chelsea owner does not get that. How can he demand that his team wins this or that particular trophy a given number of times in a set period. I despair for the way the game is going and wish all true Chelsea fans all the best. (Except of course this Sunday). Sorry about the rant but it really does bother me.
Just one small addition, after posting I read all the other answer and felt snowbeast made some very valid points. Obviously one of those who I would call a true supporter.

People can say what they will about mourinho but the truth is he brought something to the premiership that hasnt been seen before. At a time when it was a two horse race between venger and Ferguson and people were finding the game dull he came in and put the pressure on and shook them up. The reason United and Arsenal slag of Chelsea so much is because they took away their glory days. I can remember United and Arsenal at each others throats once but you don't see it so much anymore...a classic example is when last season Arsenal fans were singing heres ur trophy man united when we drew at emirates and conceded the title!
All in all the majority know its a sad day for football all round...the premiership has lost a great character and Chelsea has lost its most successful manager in history. Arsenal and United can gloat all they want...the truth is its relief for them.
We will miss u Jose, u r irreplaceable and will forever be known as the greatest manager in Blues history.
Grant is about as welcome as an STD and wont last long and i think we should look for another young manager who can help grow a developing team.

I'm not a Chelsea fan and didn't appreciate some of mourinho's rude and ignorant comments last year to some players and managers, like what he said about Benitez and Ronaldo. All was fine when he was winning, but when he was struggling I thought he lacked humour and respect. Maybe its something he still has to learn. I thought he was out of line and showed he lacked the ability to play the mind games of Fergie and Wenger etc.

That said, he is an unbelievable loss to chelsea, Abramovich and his ego just may have lost one of the best managers in the world. I think chelsea may struggle to attract a new quality manager unless abramovich is willing to back off and let the manager do his job. Time will tell. Just an xtra point, With the rumblings at spurs and all the talk of Martin Johl being on his last legs, does anyone think they will make a move 4 him?

Mourinho is one of the world class manager and have transformed the Chelsea into team which Roman Abramovich or Kenyon were not able to do with their money. The only point is the Game and Result. If you win you win, if you loose you loose (Mourinho), It will be hard for chelsea to cop up with this shock. And People of chelsea were in the awe of Mourinho, he was more popular than Terry or Lampard in whole world. Even you can get comments from any other games as well like in cricket they used to speak a lot abt him too. Every one has eye on chelsea because of Mourinho. However, it is about team and team work.
So, let's see where chelsea is going and where Mourinho is going? all the best to themmmm.
Come on the CHELS..........

He didn't quit !!!!!!!!!!

He was called into a meeting and was asked to resign, he said no he didn't want to so he was sacked !!!

Ambramavic is an idiot ! How much success in 3years does he want? They are not going to be another Man U overnight ! Goes to show that people who know nothing about football should stay out of it !! Two championships in three years !? Any club would bite your hand off for that ! I'm not a Chelsea fan but I do feel for the next manager who comes in, can he do better ? Are they going to be like they were before Jose appointing 10 managers in 11 years !!!?? None of them had the success that he brought to the club !!

Just goes to show how ever much money is ploughed into football there is still no patience for a team to gel and have success !

Unless your Manchester United ! Fergy had alot of time to master his first squad and look at the rewards now !

I hope Abramavic realises after the next three managers they get that he made the biggest mistake ever !!!

The TW@ !!!!

Neutrally, it is a sad loss to the Premiership given that Mourinho definitely brought an extra dimension to the old Man U - Arsenal battle, along with Rafa Benitez. As an Arsenal fan, however, it has made my day. When an opposition manager quits/gets sacked it is always a plus, but when it is someone as successful as the Special One, then it could make the difference for the Premiership campaign.
A lot of people have said that now it is an easy breeze for Ferguson, but I would like to point out that Arsenal are two points ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool with a game in hand! Also, lets not forget that Liverpool have acquired a pretty decent squad too!
As for who will replace him, I feel that if I was a Chelsea fan, I would like to see an old player like Hughes, Zola, Vialli even. However, given Abramovich's style of ruling the club, I would imagine it will be someone of immense stature like Capello.

Sadly this is about more than a manager, past, current or future. It's about a club being slowly but surely taken away from the supporters. I've been a Chelsea supporter for 35 years and during my teens and twenties regularly went to games as I felt that I was contributing to the club, good times or bad, as a SUPPORTER. Not a fan, or occasional visitor when times were good. They needed me, I wanted them. Now? I go maybe twice a season for my son's xmas and birthday presents and I sit there and realise that Abramovic doesn't want my support - he wants the deep pockets of the corporate idiots who tell you to sit down or stop shouting and are happy to pay £48.00 a pop on average for a ticket. God, if the East Upper and family centre sells out (and I'm a member so get first dibs if you can get onto the website or through on the phone!) which it does regularly then it's adult prices for kids as well.

Where is the next generation of supporters coming from? Which 14 -16 year old can afford the prices that Abramovic and Buck charge? 24,000 at a Champions League game tells you everything. It's not a business Mr Abramovic and Mr Buck - it's a passion, but passion has a price and you've gone well past mine and I'm not alone I think. Reduced prices for Rosenborg? To £36.00? Gosh, thanks!! I have no doubts that Mr Abramovic could run and bankroll the club without supporters if he needed to and eventually win all the trophies he desires, but ask a team what they prefer playing in front of, what makes a football match a football match, what makes players rise to the highest peaks - yes it's a full house of rabid home support not a full house of tourists and corporate jollies spending a night at the theatre.

Jose, you will be sorely missed. Sometimes the football wasn't pretty but we forgive you that for the trophies, the drama and yes, the laughs, and maybe without the interference you would have produced the style of football that we all want to see Chelsea play in the end. Your personality, the good and the bad was nothing ever short of passionate and heart felt. Sadly you came up against a bigger ego with less football knowledge but the ultimate power of ownership.

I will remain a member, and I will remain a fan because as the club know all too well "It's in the blood", but my support will remain on hold until the club needs my support once again, not just my cash.

I'm sure that there are many out there who disagree and view the whole affair at Chelsea with blinkers on. Fair enough - it's your money and your time, but deep down inside if you are old enough to remember the see-saw years of the mid seventies and the eighties, you know it's wrong at the moment.

I'm purged now. Good luck Jose, and good luck Avram Grant - God knows, you're the owners stool pigeon and I think you are going to need it. I would have been happy to have Steve Clarke. A Chelsea man through and through with all the accumulated knowledge as a player and Assitant Coach of our most successful years, but then as he's a canny Scot I'm guessing that he's not too worried about being out of the direct firing line.
