When you plug your iPod into your laptop, it will ask you if you want to replace the songs on your iPod with the songs in the current library. Select "no".

Plug your ipod into whatever computer you are using right now. When your ipod comes up in itunes, in the main ipod display just click the button that say manually manage your ipod. Then it wont sync to a computer.

You can then connect it to your laptop without worrying about losing anything. When you connect it to your laptop it should also ask you if you want to sync it to this new computer. But sounds like you had issues with that before so the first way is the safest.

If you need to get your songs from your ipod to your laptop the program I use and really like is music rescue by kennettnet. If you go to download.com you can get it for free. It will take your songs from your ipod and download it to your computer, then add the songs to itunes and rebuild your playlists. It will also scan your itunes library and your ipod and tell you which songs you dont have yet in your itunes library that are in your ipod.

Hi denise k, I've just had one , I pod I mean, what you have to do is go into preferences and make sure that it is set to only transfer songs manually, sync will delete tracks that are not on your laptop. check with the guide www.apple.com/support/manuals/ipod
