I requested non-religous text only responses because I think it goes without saying that religious texts have been inspiring us and enabling us to change our lives for the better for years! Everyone knows where to go to put their hands on the nearest Bible, Koran, collection of Sutras, etc. Besides, I think it is a benefit to reflect on thoughts and ideas of others from the past as well as the present. I am an avid reader and I love to go find books that are highly recommended! (Even if you leave a response that is laden with sarcasm or humor, I'm still going to check it out, just so you know!)

I've read a book by Napier it is called The Fragile Bond and it is about romantic relationships and families and I am usually very down-to-earth but this book is a real inspiration, sometimes funny, sometimes touching. It is non-fiction, it is rather autobiographical + a bit professional as the author is a family therapist. recommend it to everyone who wants to understand how human relationships work.

"Chicken Soup for the Soul" This book has a lot of inspirational story in all walks of life. It's like homemade chicken soup that warms the chill and heals the ill. The stories are based on the belief that true testimonies of goodness and loving transformations can nourish us to the bone and heal the cynicism in our hearts. Indeed, most every story seeps in deeply. It's hard not to shed a tear of gratitude, feeling thrilled to have been touched and soothed so easily. This book also tells us about pain, courage and hope. Many, however, have a short, simple story to tell about an event, a person, an everyday miracle that exemplifies the best of the human spirit.

Good question.
Many books have inspired me to change and one of the foremost was Tolstoy's, The Death of Ivan Ilyich. After reading it, I felt very lonely in the face of the big LIE and hypocrisy that infests the inner castles of human beings, no matter how well-intentioned, whether they are relations or enemies! I was awakened to the meaninglessness of human life and the absurdity of material pursuits at the expense of simplicity, goodness, truth, and moral values.

The book that changed my life the most was called "Summerhill," and it was written by A.S. Neil. I read it in 1961 and it had just come out the year before. I was able to treat my children much differently than I had been raised. It was liberating.
