simple. NO! its not cruel. Its cruel not to have them desexed.

Thousands of cats and dogs are put to sleep each year because people are irresponsible and numbers would be cut down if people desexed their animals. It wont fix the problem but it will ultimately bring those numbers down.

I've had my share of cats who had the trip to the vet, and I've always had that little tinge of guilt, but I've also seen how cats who have kittens get very old looking when they're pretty young. I've seen how mother cats look for their babies after they've had them but they've been given away.

Spayed pets stay younger longer.

I'm a little more uncomfortable about neutering pets that won't be going out to find any "girlfriends", but male cats who haven't been spayed can/t'won't stay in the house all the time comfortably and happily. When they go out they often wander off and get lost, decide to live outside, or get hurt.

We had a beautiful, sweet, male Collie, who would never have the chance to leave the big yard he stayed in. We were told that unless he showed signs of objectionable behavior we didn't necessarily have to have him neutered. He never happened to develop any of those objectionable habits, so we didn't happen to have him done. Again, though, we had a super-duper lock on our fence, and there was no way we would ever let him get out.

I think any thoughtful person will always have just that little pang of guilt at making a choice like that for another living creature, but I don't think its cruel at all. They don't know what they're missing, and its just too, too, heartbreaking that so many unwanted pets are brought into a world that ends up being a world of cruelty for them.

You are aware that most of those dogs are strays that were born as strays, right? The northern part of Taiwan might have done a good job at eliminating strays, but the southern part of Taiwan still has TONS of them. So strays give birth to more strays. I think the government should offer free spays and neuters which I think would genuinely bring down the number of dogs giving birth accidentally and then chucking out the puppies. I think there's tons of GREAT pet owners in Taiwan who spay and neuter their pets, or keep them away from humping other dogs or being humped if they choose not to spay or neuter. I think as long as it's affordable, most sensible people would do it.

No way. It is a gift, because they won't have to deal with the stress of a litter of demanding puppies/kittens and it'll be less likely that they'll have to go through the nightmare of certain types of cancer (according to my vet.) I think it is the best thing you can give an animal in a world that seems to think nothing of throwing animals out onto the streets, whether they be young or old.

No it is not and there are too many unwanted homeless animals in the world. Some of them starve to death. Now that is cruel.

Spaying and nuetering actually help. Thousands of unwanted kittens and puppies are killed everyday. Which do you think is most cruel?

You mean neuter I believe.

No.

It's cruel to leave a pet outside its entire life.

I dont think it's cruel- it makes a pets life less competative in their animal world. I wouldnt want my dog brimming with sex hormones and unable to get any. If he or she is more so domesticated, then desexing is better emotionally... and for their self esteem.
(Yes, my dog has her fat days, and her confident days)

Spaying or neutering your pet is the kindest and most responsible thing you can do for your pet.
