Sleeping on the job is something that is frowned upon in our place of work. Employers do not look favorably at employees who take naps or even dose off during work.

However, how many of you take naps in between work? How many of you take forty winks during lunch breaks or tea breaks? How many of you even take cat naps during the ten minutes before work starts?

Do you feel you have a right to do it? Or do you feel it is unethical and illegal?

I usually go to school mid-morning, then have about 1 1/2 between school and going to work - you bet I sleep then! Also, when I don't have school, I have a 1 1/2 hour lunch break and I live about 20 minutes away - so then I usually scarf down a SlimFast shake and sleep until I have to go back to work. I think as long as you're not on the clock, whether you sleep or not is up to you. My boss has even been known to nap in the office on a slow day;)

Having a short nap between work should be alright. After all, your lunch break, your tea break are all your own time.

I remembered working in an office many years ago and my employer was aghast when one of my colleague took naps during his breaks.

However, quite unlike us, he is able to deliver. When queried, he replied his short naps helped him to be more fresh. Since then, my former employer bate an eye close and all of us followed suit. Having a quick nap help us freshen up and improve our performance.

i think it would be nice if workers have nap time in between work bec. a few minutes of brain rest can make us more productive. i wish we can do that at hospitals bec. 12 hr shift is too long and tiring. you don't go for a break without somebody covering you anyway. so i guess it's not risky as long as it is legal. many hospitals don't pay break time anyway.

Most jobs don't pay you for your lunch (9 hour work days). I used to go out to my car at lunch...well I would occasionally...and take a little power nap. It helped me be more productive. Since they weren't paying me during that hour, I figured it was me time.

I work at the hospital and it is the company policy that if you are caught sleeping at work and you are within the office premises (even if you are inside your car parked in the parking lot), you will be outrightly terminated.

Because the hospital assumes that you are well rested when you report to work. If you lack rest at work, there's a big chance that you might commit a mistake that would result to injury of the patient.

Why shouldn't you be allowed to nap on your break?
That is why you are given a break - to refresh and regroup!

Personally, I can't do that with a 30 minute nap - and I would worry about oversleeping....

I wish I could!!! I can't take a nap just for 10 minutes.. it wouldn't be enough..... therefore I 'd rather take some coffee!!! much more helpful!!!

if its on your break, that's your time. my bf is a casino dealer they get a 20 min break every hour, he'll call me and tell me to call him back in 15 min so he can get 40 winks in. works for him, he's refreshed for the next hour. only does this if he hung out too late the night before.

You sell your employer a certain amount of your time each day,,the rest is up to you what you do with it,,,,,,if you start at 09;00 then it is your right to sleep at your desk until then,,,,remember that J.O.B. stands for just over broke, which is where all employers will keep you......

I work night utilities/maintenance in a hospital. If I don't do my job, somebody's life is at risk. I do not get paid to sleep, even on a 12-hour shift.
