No. We need marriage. Human beings are natural pair bonders, and marriage gives us a way to symbolically join with someone and share lives together. If yo uwant o focus on "it's just a piece of paper", you're probably not ready for marriage, or to be in a ltr with someone. Our perception of marriage may need to change, however.

I'll answer this by asking: "Are stable monagamous relationships where people betroth themselves to each other in a sacred ceremony before God more conducive to family units being committed, productive and lawful elements in society, or are the products of godless unions more likely to be law abiding responsible citizens with a firm idea of commitment?"

And, NO marriage is NOT an outdated tradition - it is one of the seven Sacraments which are designed to produce an inward grace which will assist the parents in having a happy marriage and bringing up children to know, love and serve God.

Love is just a deeper tone of friendship, thats all there is to realise
