The case against the parents of Madeleine McCann appeared to be crumbling after the couple were told there were no plans to reinterview them.
A prosecutor parachuted in by Portugal's attorney general to oversee the case also revealed on Wednesday night that Gerry and Kate McCann may not be the only line of inquiry.
The statement from Luis Bilro Verao, a prosecutor recently brought in from Portugal's Evora area to handle the case, said that no new evidence had emerged in the fortnight since they were declared "arguidos", or official suspects, to justify calling them for new interviews at present.
The announcement came amid speculation that Portuguese detectives had been poised to travel to the UK with a list of fresh questions for the couple to answer over the disappearance of their daughter from their rented apartment in Praia Da Luz on May 3.
While they remain arguidos, they have now been informed that other lines of inquiry are not to be ruled out by detectives.

I asked something similar last night, again, the focus was on the words 'at the moment' I felt it was positive, a step in the right direction. Maybe the focus will now be on finding where Madeleine is. Well said Tabby and Faith.

They have no plans to reinterview "at the moment" as nothing has changed, the judge had to make a decision within 10 days, and they are waiting for the rest of the test results from the UK so that they can proceed.
Remember the Portuguese police also issued a statement a couple of days before the McCanns were made arguido's that "they were NOT suspects"

I agree.....i think the exact wording was "There was no plans to reinterview the McCanns AT THE PRESENT TIME !!
That dosn't mean they won't be reinterviewed in the future or that their suspect status had been dropped !
Why do people insist on making up their own versions ??
And that's NOT an Anti nor Pro McCann opinion its simply a fact of what ALL News Channels said last night !

Odd that, because the News bulletin on radio suggested that you seemed to have dropped off a few words.. those being "at the moment", and that they may well need to interview the McCanns singular or plural later on.

No one knows what happened to the child apart form the person or person(s) actaully involved. We (you me, everyone here, the media and others) do not have a clue as to the reality of what actaully happened.

Its as if some people are playing a life size version of Cludeo, I think it was Robert Murat with the lead piping in the Villa, No no, I think it was Kate McCann with the sedatives in the bedroom.

The only people who this is of interest to right now are (primarily) the tabloids who have zoomed in on this as a human interest story which is helping them shift a lot of papers.

Personally Id agree with Faith about what would happen if the McCanns are wrongly convicted, except that the press had already convicted (well smeared) Robert Murat. And I wonder if he will ever be able to live that down, assuming of course that he is innocent.

The press are not reporting facts, in many cases they are passing on fiction.

The McCanns may be implicated in whats happened to their daughter.. they are certainly the initators of this tragedy (if nothign else they left 3 children under 5 alone without a babysitter in contravention of UK law.. so they are guilty of that.

Robert Murat may be implicated, but at present his only reason for suspiscion is that he was too helpful to the UK press & media in the immediate aftermath of the disappearance

Others may be implicated, heck the guilty party may already have been identified, they may not, we don't know, and yet the majority in the UK and elsewhere want to keep up the constant guesswork and title tattle

yeah i additionally experience sorry for the newborn (and the two infants they nonetheless have yet there is not any way they're paying sufficient interest too. destructive infants, they have no longer in user-friendly terms lost hteir sister, feels like they have virtually lost their mom and dad besides, off around the international and going from one photograph oppertunity to a distinctive). helpful, they have lost their newborn (and a severe heap of the blame for that must be laid upon the mummy and dad) yet they ought to advance up and acept that their is a severe hazard that she is lifeless, and that they have got 2 different infants. yet additionally ,the media do no longer help, focusing entirely on the McCann newborn, on a similar time as daily yet another newborn is going lacking someplace interior the united kingdom... and as for have confidence them? nicely, it feels like even their infants could no longer have confidence them to act responsibly, so individually i does no longer have confidence them so a good distance as i ought to throw them

We will never know the truth about the McCanns....too much money is involved and too many high-profile people.

It's a shame because, now they'll have to live as 'suspects' for the rest of their lives.......their own doing.

I wonder if the police are going for a softer target....?????

The main point from this statement is that the Judge has gone through all those files of evidence and sent them back to the police. It means that there is no evidence to charge them or to even further question them any further. All the evidence that we’ve heard about in the news are either speculations at best or lies at worst. I am pleased that other lines of investigations are to be opened as the Last thing Madeleine wants, if she is still alive some where, is for people to stop searching for her.

That piece of news told us nothing new. Don`t see why they bothered to even mention the McCanns.
Just another excuse to parade them in front of us.

I think you'll find you tactfully missed the word "current" from your question.

The investigation hasn't been stopped.

They haven't had their arguido status lifted.

They can still be considered suspects until at least April of next year.

So what's your ill-informed attempt at a point.

so whats your question?

If they're not guilty of murder they're guilty of child neglect, why do people seem so happy about that?

If you cant see through walls, 100 yards away from your children might as well be 500 miles.

Most of us 'anti McCanns' are not baying for their blood, a lot of us are just shocked and disgusted that a parent would leave 3 children (regardless of their age, but never the less) of ages 2 and 3 alone unsupervised.

Plus its strange how the hotel baby sitter wasn't good enough for them the night of the kidnapping, and yet it was for the 2 weeks following her disappearance.
