Being an Aussie my favourites are;
"Flat out like a lizard drinking"
"You little bloody beauty"
And my personal favourite :"No worries mate"
But we have many more could you give me an idea of your favourites and where do they originate from?

Molly, Molly, Molly!!!

I could spend hours on this topic. (It's o.k. I'm not going to rabbit on like a drongo though)

I have a particular passion for rhyming slang. Whether it's Australian or Cockney presents a bone of contention... Let's call it a draw - there were after all cockneys who blazed a trail for me a few generations ago over here after they had liberated a loaf of bread from some gentrified prick!

I have a scratch on my nose at the moment: My mate wanted to know what happened to my "I suppose"... How good is that?!!

There are so many...

Hit the "frog and toad"
Take a "butchers hook" at this
Have a "missing link" at the pub

Good question! I really could spend HOURS on this!

And then I could go on to explain why a Molly Dooker is a left hander...

My favourites are some of the above and in particular "Tell 'em they're dreamin'" or "You're dreamin'" as said in the movie, The Castle. That's so Aussie for "get real"!
Great question - STAR :)

Edit - I can understand Wayne's reluctance to loose-lip the local vernacular in business circles (I have to sound edumacated 9-5 too) but you have to agree that some Aussie slang is the funniest in the world and it can be such fun to say it out of the blue with a straight face when you can get away with it

Hi mate, that is my favourite piece of slang. I work overseas and our Company changes the workers on a regular basis.
You can't remember all their names so you address them as "G'Day Mate" and they understand. It has gotten me out of trouble many a time until I have learnt their real names. They seem to like that greeting and the Arab people take it as a compliment. It has been a God send to me sometimes. I work with people from all over the world."No worries Mate".

Heya Molly, i can safely say I never use the phrases you have darl'n, to be fair most of my business evolves around International and an educated Australian cliental. To say those slangs would be self defeating. Although at the pub I use "mate" and "cheers", but i despise the dumming down of us by "flat out like a lizard etc".

Interesting question Molly. I am an Ozzie too. I can safely say that the only real Australian slag terminology i use in everyday speech would be "no worries" however! i never use the word "mate". I appreciate the fact "mate" is associated with the best country in the world (my opinion) but i can't bring myself to actually use it, unless it would be in jest.

I'm an Aussie too, and don't often use our slang...except "How yah going?" (without the "mate"). Fair dinkum is the worse

Yeah, Fanny capability an entire distinctive factor right here. This guy i comprehend from the States made exciting of me for how I pronounced Zebrahead as quickly as, he corrected me asserting that is "Zee-bra head" as quickly as we are saying "Zeh-bra head" i'm going to circulate with "Pissed" meaning annoyed, the place as in many the united kingdom it capability inebriated.

Well...there are many slangs that one can use...but there are two of them which I use often...
1)..."U r as dead as a dodo"...
2)..."U are a slippery bag of meat which the butcher delivered 5 years ago!"...

I use many but these two r common with me!

As a fellow Aussie, nothing can beat for me, "Dry as a dead dingo's donger", which I don't use often at all :)
