I see conservatives say "you're losing the war on poverty" in one question? (usually with no attempt at an explaination?)

yet in another they talk about how the poor in America are so much better off than the poor in every other nation and how our poor have good lives?

wouldn't that be "winning the war on poverty" then?

I'm confused? winning or losing?

A person has to be old enough to remember what the blighted, run down neighborhoods used to look like in the 1950s in order to answer that question.
Poverty and living conditions in a lot of inner city neighborhoods were just as bad as in any 3rd world country. People lived without heat. Under nourished children were commonplace. People lived in houses that weren't suitable for animals, much less humans.
I don't think there is any question in my mind. We have already won the war against poverty.

This is a big question, because in the US how much money a couple has to make to live at the medium social level. It take about $2050.00 after taxes, 401K & health insurance a month for a one car couple to live on their own, that's for rent, utilities, food, car note, car insurance and communication services. So this couples first $12.81 per hour is living expenses, based on 40 hours and both making $6.40 per hour after taxes, 401K, health insurance.
So I hope I'm pointing out that we are losing the war on poverty, the poverty line is a lot higher than most people think and that to be social active even with just the base commodities and accommodations a couple need to make $45000.00 a year to live in our society. So just saying our poor live better than the poor in other countries is just a plain lie, because poor is poor no matter what country you live in. Where will it end, when will it stop!!!!

Since the United States of America is the only country where the "poor" have a obesity problem, I have to say yes we won the "war" on poverty.

How many americansare below thepoverty line.
Heck, how many cant even afford Healthcare.

Conservatives will always argue whats bst for them, that keeps their money and their rights intact first.
Then maybe they'll care for the poor come election time.

With so much below the poverty line, it shows we are losing the war on poverty.
And every conservative statement is just another rose colored arguement intent on beniefiting them somehow.

Hey lisa - if conservatives wouldnt hire low paid wagers, than how could mexicans get away with anything?
AND it wouldnt create more jobs...it would cost america more to offset the profits that would be lost by these farming businesses.
They have made it profitable tolive off the slave labor they choose to hire.
Yet, another person who blames mexicans when its their fellow republicans who are breakign the law by hiring them.
But lets not focus on that right?

Yes, we are losing in the rest of the world not in the US. If someone is hungry or needs help in the US all they have to do is ask. If there is not public assistance just asking someone on the street or at a church, mosque, synagogue or temple will usually get them some help. I happen to have seen a good part of southeast Asia and anyone who considers our poor by comparison is crazy, at least most of us care and our government tries to help also. In the better part of Asia no one cares and governments do not try to help. I am also also sure that there other parts of the world just as bad off.

every one of our little wars on (fill in the blank) where lost before they ever started cause its not the effective way to do it , its not governments job, and there will always be people left out in every program

its immoral to start these programs when our politicians know they can not fund them , but they do it anyway so they can get re elected and let future generations figure out how to clean up the messes this generation put them in

Winning -Republican style.Which means their numbers are increasing at a good pace.
Get enough poor people in America and there will be no need to open factories in China as people will then work for low wages here.........
