Do you mean the 7th Panzer Division ? That's what Rommel commanded in France.
In May of 1941 7th Panzer Division, commanded by Generalmajor Hans Freiherr von Funck, became part of Herman Hoth's 3rd Panzer Group under Army Group Center and took part in invasion of Russia.
The division crossed the Memel River and after taking Vilnius, crossed into Russia. The division advanced thru Minsk and Vitebsk before taking part in the capture of Smolensk in July 1941.
The division then took part in the final drive on Moscow but was stopped at the Volga-Moscow canal at Yakhroma on Nov. 28.
After the Russian offensive of December forced the German's back from Moscow, the division served in the line near Rzhev for a few months, then in May of 1942 it was transfered back to France for rest and refitting.
The division returned to Russia in early 1943 and was used to shore up the German front-line after Stalingrad. It stayed in Russia until surrendering to the Russians at Schwerin, in Pomerania, in May of 1945.
