Love is supposed to have lots of feeling and meaning. If you look at the way western society defines love, it's very transitory, volatile, and fades away fast. It's also used for everyday things where it has no context in "oh I love that shirt!" or "I love it it's like this." The word love is used in place of other words where the meaning would be more appropriate: "oh I like that shirt so much!" and "I'm excited when it's like this."
When you look at Eastern societies the collective meaning and actions of love means more than the feeling. Hence why there are more arranged marriages taking place in Africa and Asia. Love is seen more as doing and acting rather than what you feel.
Love should have meaning-- after all in many spiritual beliefs, when a spouse truly loves their wife/husband they would put aside their own desires for them. When you love someone, you would sacrifice for them. You would go out of your way to do something nice for them, without ever feeling bitter or resentful, but rather taking joy out of seeing how they react.
I'm getting married and a lot of people tell me "oh after the honeymoon phase you two will just be another couple." I ignore that because even though I know passionate love will fade somewhat, my love for my fiance won't fade. We show our care and love for each other through actions and not *just* words. I think that's the part that has been lost-- people rely too much on words and not enough on doing.
If more people acted on their love instead of just spitting words out, there would be a lot more *real* love in the world, and not just broken hearts and promises.

Love has plenty of meaning. Read 1 Corinthians, Chapter 13 in the Bible. That is God's definition of genuine love and it is full of meaning. You can take every word in that chapter and look them up in the dictionary and you will find that they all have some pretty deep meanings to them. The key here is what you 'do' with those meanings in your own life as to whether love will be meaningfull to you.

It's because love is related to the heart and the meaning is given by the brain.........only the heart knows the true feeling, the brain cannot express it. You have to choose between the feelings of the heart and the thoughts of the brain.

....people have just not given it enough meaning....like some people say I love you....then don't love you...don't care about you.....or just say it because of more for sex...than real love...
...when I read your question...I thought...that is exactly right....like I feel that way....
...I don't want to be feeling in love with someone when it is more like not real...just a bunch of feelings...and that's it...or more of related to sex...not caring....
...think because the way society is now....too easy for most people to just run around for sex and what some people say long term or partners...not real and lasting love...almost like people can change their minds and decide one day they love you and the next they don't and then it is over...
...I know love is suppose to be great and everything...but other times...it feels like a waste of time...

Because it is one of the strongest emotions in the world. and because it is grossly overused wherever you go and has lost its meaning.

i agree with riya.
sometimes, saying "i love you" is just used to catch somebody's attention, and not reaaly meaning what it is supposed to mean.
