Old belief :
-both partners should eat lots of fish and vegetables
-give in to your chocolate cravings, or just sweets in general
-indulge in afternoon delights
-eat food rich in calcuim and magnesium, such as milk, cheese, nuts, beans and cererals
-women should reach orgasm before their partners
-make love with the woman on top
Scientific evidence also shown that wishing and praying increase your odds of conceiving a baby with the gender of your choice.

I actually just learned how you can try to increase your chance of having a girl (based on science).
To explain it, I need to give you a little bit of an anatomy lecture. You know that all women only carry X chromosomes; and men carry X and Y. Making it the man's job to determine the gender of the baby.
There is actually a difference between the X sperm and the Y sperm. The X sperm (makes girls) are the "slow and steady" swimmers. Kind of like the "tortoise" in the tortoise and the hair story. They swim slowly, but can survive for up to 96 hours (4 days) after ejaculation. The Y sperm (makes boys) are the "sprinters." They can swim much faster than the X sperm. They have an extra little "energy pack" that allows them to be quick. However, the Y sperm uses up that energy rather quickly and only survives for about 24 hours.
Now we move to the female side of it. If a woman has sex WHILE she is ovulating the chance of a boy is higher. This is because the Y sperm are faster. If the egg is there and ready for them, all they have to do is get there first.
If a woman has sex up to three (maybe four) days BEFORE she is ovulating, the Y sperm will have all died off, leaving only the slow and steady X swimmers. You are then much more likely to have a girl.
Moral of the story:
For a Boy: Have sex WHILE you are ovulating.
For a Girl: Have sex a few days BEFORE you are ovulating.
Obviously, this isn't a for sure method. It's just a scientific way of narrowing the possibilities.
Edit: To play devil's advocate for the person below me.... the position has NOTHING to do with the gender of the child.

The male sperm determines the gender of the baby, but there are ways you can increase your chances of having a girl. Typically, a guy has more boy sperm than girl sperm... (and now don't think this is a gender war statement, just a fact about sperm!) but the male sperm is weaker than the female sperm.. and female sperm will live longer than male sperm, mostly because they can withstand hotter temperatures. So, you are more likely to have a girl as you get closer to ovulation. There are entire books on this! It's not 100% effective, but it will increase your chances. Check our this book: How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby, by Landrum Shettles, M.D., and David Rorvik ... or Boy or Girl? by Elizabeth Whelan.

Your partner's genetics determine whether or not you will have a girl. Does your partner come from a family with a lot of girls? If so, your chances may be better. But, if not, don't worry...you still have a chance...my daughter was the first girl on my husband's side of the family in 62 years.

actually you carry the female genes, buh the male is the one that carries the male and female genes... and the male is the one that decides the sex of the baby. Everyone wishes they would choose the sex of their baby, but we cant. So ya the male determines if the baby is a boy or girl. All you can do is hope :)

Its really just luck but you should be happy to get what ever as they are beautiful boy or girl and you no there are so many people out there who are not even lucky enough to have a baby so be happy with what ever:)

my fiance has 3 boys with his Ex. We did a lot of doggy style postion, call me crazy but You have a good chance of having a girl doggy style or riding on top. We are having his first girl and i get to be the one who gives it to him....yay!!

You go on top during sex, the x (female) sperm swim quicker, so the slower male ones have to fight gravity and go even slower, but after sex get up and walk around, don't lie there cuddling

Keep trying or adopt ..you will never know its always a 50/50 chance you could try a million times and it could be a boy you never know.
