Again, because so many people have such difficulty with this concept.. A republic is a form of democracy.

And yes, it would be accurate to say the republic of the United States of America.

We are a Republic and always have been, however we refer to the country as being democratic, meaning all people share the opportunity to run the country, vote, etc. It's not usually referred to as the Republic of the USA.

We are a Republic, but we are also made up of many states who have some say over their own laws, as long as it doesn't violate Federal law.

I don't think the calling us The Republic of the United States would be wrong as that is what we are.

A republic is (((representative))) democracy.
its a form of democracy.

This is for all the idiots that keep saying we are not a democracy. Sure, we are not a pure democracy, because we dont live in ancient greece, and not every citizen votes on each law that is considered. But our citizens do elect representatives who represent us by voting on laws being considered. We have federally elected representatives. We have local elected reps.....Our government is structured as a republic...which is a representative democracy where the government's power comes from the people who elect them.

"...and to the republic, for which it stands..." I guess it would be OK to say that. But for the record, it is a democratic republic not simply a republic. A republic means the population has representatives. In a democratic republic, we elect those representatives; they are not appointed not anointed. The Soviet Union (the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic) was a republic so is China (Peoples Republic of China).
