Okay, a close friend of mine acts incredibly angry all the time. She says how lucky I am coz I have such a supportive husband, when she's a FT caretaker to her Mother who's getting older and recuped w/a stroke. She also waitresses FT. ANyway, she complains day in and day out about pretty much everything under the sun.
She's looking for help,but the best help I can give her is to atleast make the effort to inspire her to go for either professional therapy, OR a life coach!
But WHICH One is better?
Have U personally tried both?
I know w/therapy it seems probably they just talk about ur problems over and over
but w/a life coach it seems like there's more focus on ANSWERS to get u where you really wanna go in life
What's your compassionate opinion pls?

Although the perfect combo would be both a life coach and a therapist, here are some differences as I have tried both:
If she sees a life coach, they have a free first session (generally) and will be better able to decide if she should see them or a therapist.
If she is just dissatisfied with her life, and has no mental problems, a life coach would benefit her as they would walk her through the transition from hating life to enjoying life. I would specifically recommend a prosperity coach- it changed my life.
When looking for a coach:
First session free(so you know if they are for you).
Great testimonials, talk to her past clients, did their lives change and how?

The key to your question is that your friend "acts incredibly angry all the time." Unless you are strongly exaggerating, she not only won't get much from working with a life coach but most likely would strongly benefit from therapy. Life coaches don't work on these types of emotional issues with clients.

Actually, the alternative I would recommend is that your friend first consult with her general practitioner. He or she can ask some basic questions and help your friend make an informed decision about further care. Stress and exhaustion caused by your friend's demanding life can lead to all manner of difficulties, and a good GP can do an initial, basic assessment of the situation.

I'm a psychologist. Therapy isn't necessarily just discussing your problems: cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), for example, concentrates on finding better ways to deal with problems rather than just going over and over them. That doesn't mean therapy's the best thing for every circumstance: whether it would be better for your friend is hard to answer, because it's impossible to tell from this what kind of help she needs. Is she trying to make her life better on a day-to-day practical level (organising her time, her finances, that kind of thing)? A life coach would be better for that. Or is she trying to cope with emotional issues? A therapist is better for that. However, both are expensive, and if she's a waitress that might be an issue unless she has access to cheap therapy.

I think you have answered your own question :) A life coach would be very proactive and it sounds to me that's what she needs, someone to help her find the positives in life. If there are deeper problems depression, etc, a therapist helps heal so you can have understanding and acceptance. Though I think you know what would be better for her.
