When I was five I got a new bike. From then on till I was 18 I got a swim suit. My mother would not even wrap it. My last cake was like when I was 8.. Now I buy my own cake and my daughter and I celebrate my birthday. I pick out matching cups, plates, and napkins. I never had those when I was a child. My older sister did. But not me. Poor me....

My Parents would remember my birthday with my mother baking some special treat (cookies, cupcakes, cake), left-over Halloween Candy (hey, my birthday is just after Halloween), and even when I went on Active Duty with the Military -- a letter or card ... nothing much to most people, but it meant the world to me.

They stopped celebrating the birth of us 3 children when they passed on .. and ... sadly ... it was shortly after all of us were on active duty with the US Military.

NOW .. more than a quarter of a century later ... I STILL Miss the presence of MY parents ... especially my Mother. Wish they could have seen how all of us succeeded and overcame the obstacles in our way. I'd like to think that they would have definitely approved of my NEW boyfriend ..

This may sound silly, but I am 32 years old and my folks had cake and ice cream for me. My sisters get cake and ice cream on their birthdays too, and we are all grown women!
