Hi.
There's a few people I bought gifts for last christmas who didn't buy for me. So this year I'm going to buy them gifts but only bring it out if they've bought a gift too. This isn't coz I'm being tacky, it's because I would rather save the money if they other person doesn't want to buy me a present. Then I can buy a new christmas outfit or something for my family.
I'm gonna buy these people food presents like chocolates, because if they haven't brought a present too, I can always give them to my family to eat, so no money wasted.

I've given up trying to give gifts to everyone I know. The worst was when I gave someone some European chocolates and he said that he couldn't eat them because he had high cholesterol levels (too much info and too late bc I didn't know this until I gave him the gift). The next year, I gave him a fruit basket and he came right out and said he didn't like fruits. Not even a thank you either year. Kind of killed the gift giving spirit. May I suggest that you give gifts only to really close friends and family? It also might help if you gave the gifts earlier in the Christmas season so that the ppl who want to give you a gift in return will have some time to do some shopping.

Its nice to receive gifts at Christmas and give at the same time, but some people do not appreciate the idea of giving and receiving. Thus Christmas is all about love and being happy.....in other words just share the joy, love, happiness, gifts for those who need it and God Bless.

I love to give Xmas presents, but I don't set a schedule for it. I let the gift chose itself. For instance, if I see something that is perfect for a friend, I get it, regardless if we exchange gifts in the past. Sometimes I don't give anything because the gift didn't present itself.
After giving a gift one year, I don't feel obligated to give one next year. I like to keep it free and easy, that way it's more fun.
(If that makes sense).
But, you may embarass the person by continuing to give gifts when they don't return one and that isn't the point of gift giving.

You need to learn that a gift is not an expectation. In other words, you give because you want the other person to have this wonderful gift that you chose specifically just for them. You should not EVER expect someone to give you a gift. That is TACKY!

I'll be honest,I stop giving them gifts unless they give one to me,unexpectantly...I always keep one or two gifts back, capable of pleasing anyone so when this happens I can bring one out when necessary..Our family is so large this occurs quite often..we all know its okay, due to finances, timing, etc...so no big deal really..Our time together and great food is most important to us all anyway..=)

This happens to me every year. I like giving, and always buy for people I care about. If they give me something in return, that's fine, but most of the time, I don't get anything, which is quite all right too. It's about love and caring and sharing for me. I just enjoy giving.
