You are right. Meaning and purpose are closely related and interchangeable for many people. You are most correct that " life's meaning is different for everybody". And as we change and / or age it can change, expand or contract. Most important of all, enjoy life to the fullest, have friends. PEACE.

Does life need a meaning? Yes, judging by all the people who ask about meaning, it is the most important question there is. Meaning is the same as worth. If life has meaning, it has worth. Here is what one atheist said about worth:
"There is only one really serious philosophical question, and that is suicide. Deciding whether or not life is worth living is to answer the fundamental question in philosophy. All other questions follow from that." (Albert Camus)
And yes, meaning comes from living for a real purpose. Here is what another atheist said about purpose:
“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell
So if we reject God, life is meaningless, purposeless, pointless and our lives are worthless. Our only course of action is to think of some things to do which will make us feel good about ourselves and/or forget that our existence is meaningless. That inventing of things to take our mind off of our pointless existence is what people are referring to when they say that you have to create your own meaning.
But if we allow that God might exist, then we can have real purpose. It seems to me that God must have put our intense need for meaning into our human nature in order to point us to seek Him. So I think seeking God is our purpose and the ensuing relationship with Him gives meaning.

Sure life must have a meaning. It is impossible to do anything and not have some sort of meaning that could be derived from the action.
I personally believe that the meaning of life lies in the spiritual over the material. Dig into religion and a good start is the good ol' Bible (New Testament) It is a great book and it teaches how sometimes you must die to your own needs to reach contentment and happiness.

there is no meaning to life. we are animals, and we've devolved into thinking beings, and look where that has brought us. we're reduced to insecure, cynical, destructive things. we're incapable of surviving, hence the gradual demise of our habitat. we have resorted to seeking our purpose online, and the only answers we can possibly receive are our own idealistic fantasies.
