It is NOT pronounce Tobbin to clarify, but Toe-bin. I like that his nickname would be Toby.

I would give it a 10. As a parent you and your husband have a right to name your child what you want...seeing as your parents named you after what they wanted. I think an original name is great! its better than all those Alshey's and Stephanies, and John's....how boring! And mostlikely he will be Tobin. but thats still cool because there are less Toby's than Ashleys and all those other generic names.

Eh, a 5.

I do like how a nickname would be Toby, so why not go with simply Toby? Then, you can use Tobin as a nickname.

Also consider Tobias. Toby is a common nickname for the name, too.

I give it a 9. We like it too for a boy. The reason I dont give it a 10 is that I hate the nickname Toby. But I love Tobin. Tobin Bell is an awesome actor and we liked the name and then we started seeing it all over. There is a street name near our new house named Tobin and a wine brand called Tobin James Cellars. I took it as a sign. I think its a good name for both a boy and a man and yes its different but at least its not "John", "Robert" or "Michael" like every other person's kid.

Maybe he will let you use it as a 2nd name. Or you can name one child and he can name the other.

I like it...and I know I will get thumbs down but eh...at least I have my own opinion thats not influenced by what everyone else does.

PS: This is the exact reason why I will never ask people on this site for opinions cos the names I like are unconventional and everyone would hate them.

Tobin rocks.

I don't hate the name but I'm not keen on it. I don't think you are crazy. I'd have to give it a 3 out of 10, sorry. I think Toby is cute. Why not Toby?

I'd give it a 4 as a first name. Sure, it's unique, but I would be afraid people or other kids would call him "Toe"...unless that sounds cute to you.

If you plan on calling him Toby, why not name him that? I'd give the name Toby a 9.

Its okay---I was stuck with the name Adelmo Jaako because of a Finnish mom and German Dad. It is really bad for a kid growing up when the teacher would make a huge deal out of my name asking the origins and stuff like that. If you are dead set on Tobin make it the middle name. I would rate and 8

I believe there is a straight jacket with your name on it somewhere.

If you want different name, think a great grandparent or review a history book. Depending on the family life you folks had, pulling a old name off the family tree, brings honor to them and maybe starts a new tradition. Would you want granddaughter named after you or B. Spears?

Dumb names brings bullies and grief.

Your child should be remembered for the upbringing he received. He should be known for what he did in his life, not by how dumb his name was!

There's a Tobin on my kids' Little League team and he does not get razzed. It's distinctive. Don't shorten it to Toby; that's both boy and girl name.

If he hates it girl, pick another. It doesn't matter what your Yahoo friends think. Our opinions aren't going to sway your hubby's opinion. Pick a name you both can live with... and that doesn't have a sappy nickname!
