There are numerous activities and restaurants, including Sea World, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and Schlitterbahn. There are 13 Colleges and Universities in the city. Major parks include: Brackenridge, Friedrich, McAllister, Milam, Pearsall, Rosedale, San Pedro Springs, O.P.Schnabel, South Side Lions, Walker Ranch, and Woodlawn Lake. There are several major cultural and art intitutions in the city. The heart of the city is centered around the Paseo del Rio (Riverwalk) which has restaurants, clubs, shops, and hotels along the San Antonio River, and barges give tours of the river and large numbers of people gather.

Recently the San Antonio Spurs a local franchise of the NBA won the 4 th National Championship. They are heralded around town, and it is almost a city requirement to love the Spurs. (Though my daughter is not to fond of them) We also have the Silver Stars of the WNBA who made the playoffs this year, The San Antonio Missions Double A Baseball Team, also in the playoffs. And we have the San Antonio Rampage AHL Hockey Team. Annually we have the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo which has been awarded the best indoor rodeo for the past several years.

There are numerous outdoor activities and most are enjoyed year round. We are surrounded by lakes and rivers and are less than 3 hours from the coast.

The must do activities for the area are:
Tubing, spending a leisurely day riding an inner tube on an area river.
Raspa, eating a raspa (snowcone) in the Main Plaza or El Mercado downtown.
Zoo, the SA Zoo is one of the largest in the country.
The Tower of the Americas, built for the 1968 World's Fair - Hemisfair 68, the 750 ft tower gives you a view of the city where you can eat a meal or enjoy a drink.
The Missions, including the Alamo
The Springs, swim in the cool waters the the sping fed pool at San Pedro Springs Park
The Spurs, enough said
Splash, at Sea World
NIOSA, Night in Old San Antonio during the annual Fiesta Celebration is a crushing madhouse of fun. It has to be experienced, wear steel toed shoes.
The Tejano Cunjunto Festival, every May a celebration of Tejano Music
The McNay Art Museum, its an art museum
San Antonio Botanical Gardens, home to Shakespeare in the Park and the monthly concert under the stars series.
Underground Texas, See the caverns in some of the local caverns like Natural Bridge Caverns or Cavern Without A Name
Riverwalk at Christmas, all the lights and festivities are great
Football, this is Texas and Friday nights are reserved for football, as is Saturday and Sunday and for a few Monday and Thursday. (I just watch on rare occasions)
Dance Hall, Got to go dancing at a dance hall like Floore's Country Store or Grune Hall.
The Broadway Series at he Majestic
The San Antonio Symphony
Jazz Alive, an annual jazz festival bringing jazz musicians including major stars to the city (free at Travis Park)
Late Nite at Mi Tierra, a San Antonio Staple Mi Tierra in El Mercado open all night is the late nite place to be.
Southtown, the first friday of the month is party time in the artsy section of SA Southtown, Live Music, Street Vendors, and Art Galleries open up for a grand party.

Theres a lot to do, and great weather, and to those of us who love our city, it is the perfect place to live or visit.

The river walk is in down town San Antonio. I am a little bit surprised that the only place that my fellow San Antonians seem to know about is the River Walk Mall, Frankly this is just a lot of eye candy and if you don't mind paying more it is a great place to go but on the other hand if you are coming to do the annual thing like buying clothing for children to go back to school in, that is something different. I raised three children and if I had to buy clothing for them still it wouldn't be at the River Walk Mall. I would go to Ingram Square and next door Ingram Park. These are on the North west side on I-410 There is a Stafford Inn right across the Hwy form them. From there to down town it is about 15 minutes. I will point out that there are several other large malls up and down I-410. So the choice is up to you, you can do the tourist thing and head to the River Walk mall or you can do what most of us really do and that is go where we are going to do the most with our money. What ever you decide have a good time here and come on back.

Riverwalk is nice. Walk and take the boat. They have some nice restaurants (Dick's Last Resort is fun), Fiesta Texas, etc... It is a regular city. I don't recommend planning a long stay at the Alamo, it isn't that big. The wax museum is pretty fun, as well.
