Where do you want to live? Country, on the water, mountains?

Determine your price range then the typography you want then start looking.

There are great programs for building a home. You can also buy the land with a 3n1 builder loan. You don't make a payment until contruction is done. city-data.com is a wealth of info for towns in CA

Prices are falling like rocks around Stockton and there is always Barstow and Riverside etc .
You can probably get a piece with a house already on it for cheap now !
