best 500 gig ext hrd drive with USB 2.0 & 1.0 compatible?

Looking for another external drive. I bought the My Book 500 gig from Western Digital and it lasted three weeks...then refused to boot. I am looking for suggestions outside of Western Digital. So please... those of you who have working MY Books...refrain from telling me how you bought ten for your network and a year later all work well and how all you have used is WD and how you never have problems...I am looking for suggestions for drives NOT made by Western Digital. Your help if you please? Thanks.
