Why do you think this is so?

Both are opinions from outside sources and should never be more important than my own. All that I am depends on my opinion of who I choose to be. I may listen to others and appreciate their thoughts or not, I weigh them for comparison and sometimes alter my choices based on new concepts but ultimately I have to live with my own standards of acceptable concepts and behaviors.

I hold on to criticism because I don't take a compliment seriously. Compliments usually come with an attachment (meaning it is someone's way of getting something out of me) and most of the time aren't honest.

Criticism hits home and it stays with me forever. I still hold grudges against criticism I received when I was a kid (and that was way back in the Stone Age!!) and I have those critiques etched in my brain.

It's human nature to hold on to all the negativity in one's life...even though it isn't a good idea...and until we can all get past our emotions and/or paranoia, I guess we'll all hang on to the criticism and dismiss the compliments.

Criticism if it is objective. Criticism can lead one to self improvement, when one improves, compliments simply follows.

It is better to face bit of hardship now and face brighter future then to hide behind shadow of a word that is baseless complement and fail in life later on.

However, one really can not succeed with out balance of criticism and compliment, after all compliments do motivate us so that we can receive more compliment.

Criticism. When someone critisizes you, it makes you look at yourself and its human nature to start to wonder if what they said is true.
We have become a society who take compliments very lightheartedly. I don't know a single person who doesn't hate something about themselves and in turn has boughts of low self esteem. Therefore, a critic will harm us longer and deeper than a compliment will lift us up.

Criticism

It's easier to remember the bad stuff people say. People usually criticize when they mean it. Compliments are more of a "I feel like I need to compliment you" sort of thing. I have actually told people not to compliment me on things because I hate to feel like they are doing it just to have something to say.

Compliment, I try to look at the brighter side of life, but I suppose it depends
Sometimes I'll reflect constantly on the criticism but that's only when I'm beating myself up

A critisism. I don't really know why.. I just think about it SO much after, unlike a compliment where it makes me happy for a few minutes then I forget about it. When someone critisizes me I feel really bad for a long time

A criticism because if someone finds something to criticize you for it means you have to work harder to correct it.
