You might have been too young to remember this also. The police initially suspected John Elway. They based this on the fact that there were reports of a white, slow moving bronco leaving the scene of the crime!

His friend (I think it was Al Cowlings) was driving him around, trying to talk him out of commiting suicide!!! In the car that was driving South towards Mexico was $10,000, his passport and a bearded disguise. He & Phil Spector are both psycopaths that belong in jail!

As I recall, he said he was contemplating suicide, so his friend who was driving was afraid to stop. True of false, I don't know.
