My admiration goes out to you for even wanting to join the navy. Its people like you who are my heros. I believe the best way to tell your parents would be to be yourself, tell them you have something you want to discuss as adults and just come out and tell them. Just be prepared for them to ask questions and they will be concerned and scared for you. Just have the right answers and you'll be fine.

OK i just joined the navy,, so its definitely a good decision, but Ive got my whole family in the military so telling my parents was the least of my worries. my advice to you is go on the navy website, become as informed as you possible can and then set up an appointment to meet a recruiter,.. i;m not saying you should lie to your parents, but i would not suggest telling them about this initial contact with a navy recruiter.. if you have a car drive yourself to their office, if not have the recruiter pick you up. once you are there, your recruiter will be able to help you alot. they'll give you tons of information and they'll also tell you how to talk to your parents about it. they'll even come talk to your parents with you.
Final Decision: even though it took a lot of words, basically go talk to a recruiter, you don't have to tell your parents, a recruiter can really be an ally on the war with parents.
p.s. good choice with the navy.. if you don't mind.. where are you from? let me know if you have any questions. good luck.. --Erin

Just tell them. You can further your education, travel, learn discipline etc. The military is a proud thing to be a part of.
Just come right out and tell them. If you are old enough, you can do whatever you want.
